UCSI Medical Students' Association

UCSI Medical Students' Association UCSI MedicSA - a Team Made of Us, for Us. Medical profession has been associated primarily with the public service.

Medicine is often perceived as a profession for the altruists and is often interpreted from the perspective of social mission. Thus, being a doctor often comes with great responsibilities. In order to prepare us in bearing these responsibilities in near future as successful doctors, being equipped with enough knowledge and gaining experience throughout the 5 years course plays a major role. MedicSA has served and would be serving as an important platform for the medical students to gain valuable experience during their years in medical school. We believe, MedicSA would be providing a varied and circuitous journey for its members, in terms of skills and experiences. In short, MedicSA would not only play its role in producing all rounded medical students but a doctor who not only heals but also is a leader, inventor, and a social scientists.

Warm Greetings to UCSI University Students!

Dialysis is a procedure to remove waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys stop working properly. It is a relatively expensive medical procedure in which the patients are required to receive the procedure continuously to replace the kidney function.

National Kidney Foundation is dedicated to raise the standard of care for those who suffer from kidney disease. NKF offers subsidies for dialysis treatment up to RM100. They help more than 1700 patients in 28 centers around Malaysia.

Warm Greetings to UCSI University Students!

Some of the COVID-19 survival patients show signs of kidney damage. This is shown by high protein and/or blood levels in the urine and abnormal bloodwork including high serum Creatinine and low glomerular filtration rate (GFR) levels. Patients who suffer from acute kidney injury requiring dialysis have less chance of survival than those who do not have kidney disease.

Those who were infected by COVID are advised to do a full blood workup and urine analysis to determine their kidney health, hence preventing further complications.

Warm Greetings to UCSI University Students!

The most common kidney disease is chronic kidney disease (CKD). It reduces the kidney's ability to filter the waste and water from our bodies. In order to understand the ways to prevent kidney disease, the factor that causes CKD should be known first. The risk factor that causes CKD is diabetes, obesity, kidney stone, high blood pressure, and aging. As we can see, most of the factors are modifiable risk factors that are related to lifestyle and eating habits. Therefore, we should practice a healthy lifestyle and eating habits to protect our kidney's health.

Warm Greetings to UCSI University Students!

Kidney transplants and Hemodialysis are two treatment options for kidney failure. A kidney transplant is surgery to give you a healthy kidney from someone else's body to replace the work your own kidney can no longer do. It is classified as living-donor and deceased-donor transplantation. On the other hand, Hemodialysis is a treatment where an artificial kidney (dialyzer) is used to purify your blood by removing waste products and excess fluid when your kidney is no longer healthy to work normally.
