Proprioception is the body's ability to sense space or understanding boundaries and movement. Children with proprioceptive dysfunction often bumps into objects or trips, appears to be overly energetic, or plays rough, exhibit self stimulatory behaviour (chewing, head banging, walking around the room) and weak hands' grasping capability.
Proprioceptive inputs can be very beneficial for children with proprioceptive dysfunction as it is calming and regulating.
It provides deep pressure to the joints and muscles. It gives the child a sense of control and body awareness.
Activities that you may conduct at home to provide proprioceptive inputs are spray nozzle on garden hose to water plants, washing the car together or even help with the cooking in the kitchen.
