The Global Service Centre (GSC) was established in 2008 to offer administrative services to programmes and staff from the World Health Organization (WHO) and partner entities (UNAIDS, UNICC, and UNITAID). GSC provides services in the areas of Global Human Resources, Global Payroll, Global Finance, Global Procurement and Logistics, and Internal Management and Support. GSC also hosts part of the Information Management and Technology department which includes the Global Service Desk (GSD) and other technical teams.
Early 2008: with the generous support of the Malaysian government, the Centre is established in record time and quickly expands to more than 200 staff.
2008 to 2011: Global Management System (GSM) system launch and GSC services expansion to all WHO major offices as well as to some of the partner organizations (UNAIDS, UNICC, APOC and UNITAID).
2015: GSC becomes an ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Approved Employer – in the Trainee Development Platinum level. In the same year, GSC is approved as a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Training Partner (CIMA).
December 2016: GSC is granted the Multimedia Super Corridor Affiliate Status (MSC Status Malaysia). This status is a mark of world-class service and achievement, as well as passport and gateway to a host of privileges granted by the Government of Malaysia.
November 2017: GSC Global Finance and Global Payroll teams’ work is awarded with the ISO 9001: 2015 Certification.
March 2018: GSC gains the recognition as an ACCA Approved Employer for Professional Development, which has shown its commitment to continuous staff development.
Today: GSC is making a pioneering effort to replace repetitive processing work with the Robotic Process Automation (RPA). Some of the rules-based business processes in the Global Procurement and Logistics, Global Payroll and Global HR units will soon be streamlined and replaced by the RPA programme.
From 2008 to date, the Centre has grown to about 300 staff members, successfully delivering a portfolio of administrative services to WHO and other United Nations partner entities around the world. The volume of transactions stabilized at an average of 300,000 per quarter over 2018. The business objective was and continues to be achieving cost reductions and efficiency gains in the delivery of administrative services for WHO.
