Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a condition caused by injury to the part of brain that controls the muscles, movement and coordination. CP is the most common physical disability in childhood affecting 1 in every 300 children. People with CP require lifelong interventions in order to minimise the effects and have better quality of life.
Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC ), through the Rehabilitation Unit, hosted a CP Awareness Roadshow in collaboration with Gabungan Anak-Anak Palsi Serebrum (GAPS) and CIMB Bank on 9 August 2025.
Among the activities provided for the participants was briefing on the causes, types of CP, challenges faced by the patients and the importance of early intervention therapy. It was then followed by demonstrations and practice sessions using a toolkit developed based on practicality and 'low-cost' therapy so that it can be materialised by parents at home.
This nationwide roadshow aims to create awareness about CP, provide hands-on workshops for parents to equip them with basic skills in home therapy and it also serves as a support group for parents to connect and exchange stories within the circle.
It is with great hope that this initiative under GAPS will reach out to more families of children with CP across Malaysia, encouraging them to come forward and seek solidarity in the shared experience.
