In the Siddha system of medicine, man is viewed as a microcosm and the universe as a macrocosm. In other words, man is a miniature universe in himself. The whole universe in turn is believed to be constituted of five primordial elements which is Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space and so is man. The "Five Fold Combination" of Siddha science explains the origin and formation of these basic elements as well as the role of these five elements in the formation of every substance both in the universe and in humans.

Introduction:

The Siddha system of medicine is a traditional medical system, which preventive, promotive, curative and rejuvenative health care with scientific / holistic approach. The word 'Siddha' is derived from the root word 'Citti', which means attaining perfection, eternal bliss and accomplishment.

The Siddha system is evolved based on 96 tools (96 Tatwas) which includes physical, physiology, psychological and intellectual aspects of every Human Being.

Among them are five (5) primordial elements, namely Earth, Water, Fire, Air & Space. There is a balanced condensation / rarefaction /transformation of these elements in different proportions as different structure and functions of human body which is responsible for the formation of living and non-living things may exist in gross or subtle state.

3 Vital life factor:
This are functional constituents are formed by the 5 element. They are Vatam / Pittam / Kapam. The imbalance between the 3 due to food or life style changes will leas to disturbance in their equilibrium eventually causing diseases.
