Signs of hand and finger osteoarthritis
Athritis
This is a common symptom in patients with osteoarthritis of the hands and fingers. In the early stages, the patient feels dull pain, discomfort in the joints.
Over time, the pain becomes more severe, persistent. The patient will experience sharp pain and difficulty in bending the joints of the fingers. In addition, joint pain is worse when the weather is cold, infection, joint use a lot, repetitive manipulation, pressure ...
Stiffness
This symptom makes it difficult for the patient to bend or extend the knuckles. The stiffness is usually severe in the morning after waking up or when resting, not using the hands.
Symptoms may be relieved after the patient massages the fingertips for about 5-10 minutes. The cause of this symptom is due to joint damage that causes the secretion of lubricating mucus in the joints to be drastically reduced.
Joint swelling and redness
Osteoarthritis triggers inflammatory reactions that lead to swelling and redness in the joints. In the joints near the fingertips, the large swelling is called a Heberden's nodule. A large swelling in the middle joints of the fingers is called Bouchard.
