A Sharp Surprise!!
Once again we collaborated with the ENT Department, HSIS for an Emergency OT
This time in support of a foreign body removal.
A young boy had accidentally aspirated a thumbtack, which was lodged at left main bronchus. The thumbtack was successfully removed using rigid bronchoscopy and forceps without any complications.
Post-removal surveillance bronchoscopy revealed no airway injury.

Our Story

The Department of Pulmonology, Serdang Hospital started as a Respiratory Unit on 1.11.11 as a new service under the General Medical Department. It is also known as "SERDANG PULMONOLOGY". SERDANG PULMONOLOGY provides the full range of respiratory services for inpatient and outpatient care in Klang Valley.

At Serdang, pulmonologists (chest physicians) from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) work as one team. As part of our policy, patients with suspected lung cancer will be seen as a matter of urgency and given high priority.

We provide general respiratory work as well as highly subspecialised work including interventional pulmonology, pulmonary physiology, sleep, ILD, pulmonary hypertension and lung transplant. It's also an accredited training centre for the National Pulmonology fellowship.

Following the expansion of services, the Unit was upgraded to a full department on July 2018.
