Blurry vision? Lights looking too bright at night? šŸ¤”
It might not just be age—it could be a cataract.
Cataracts occur when the natural lens in your eye becomes cloudy, making it harder to read, drive, or even recognise faces.
The good news? Cataracts can be treated safely and effectively with surgery.

šŸ‘ļø Common causes:
- Ageing
- Diabetes
- Long-term steroid use
- Eye injury or Family history

If your vision isn’t as clear as it used to be, don’t wait.
Early detection saves sight.

Grateful for the opportunity to speak at the medical conference organised by Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh, where I shared on a topic close to my heart:
ā€œDiabetic Retinopathy – Recognising Early Signs and the Importance of Referral for Timely Management.ā€
Diabetes is on the rise, and so is the risk of vision loss. Early detection and timely referral can truly change outcomes for our patients.
It was an honour to contribute to this conversation and engage with so many dedicated GPs who are often the first line of defence in protecting our patients’ sight.
Thank you for having me. šŸ’™

Grateful to be invited by PERKESO (SOCSO) to share on a topic that is close to my heart—blindness and its impact on individuals and society.

Vision loss is not just a medical issue—it affects one’s independence, safety, emotional well-being, and economic productivity. Awareness and early intervention can make a world of difference, and I’m honoured to be part of this meaningful conversation.

Thank you, PERKESO, for championing health education and for the opportunity to contribute towards a more informed and inclusive community.

Children don’t always know they have vision problems—because for them, blurry is normal. That’s why regular eye check-ups matter more than you think.

Here’s what early eye exams can do:
šŸ” Catch vision problems early – Like nearsightedness, lazy eye, or astigmatism.
🧠 Prevent developmental delays – Vision issues can affect learning, speech, and motor skills.
šŸ•µļøā€ā™‚ļø Detect hidden eye conditions – Some eye diseases show no symptoms in early stages.
šŸ‘ļø Ensure healthy vision for life – Early care means better outcomes as they grow.

šŸ‘¶ Don’t wait until problems arise. Start with regular eye exams from a young age.

Is screen time affecting your child’s eyes? With more kids glued to gadgets, digital eye strain is becoming a real concern—even at a young age.

šŸ‘©ā€āš•ļø Dr. Kavitha, Consultant Ophthalmologist from Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh, shares 5 simple screen-time rules every parent should know:

šŸ‘€ 1. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule:
Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away.

ā³ 2. Limit Screen Time:
1–2 hours a day is enough—especially for younger children. More isn’t always better!

šŸ“± 3. Maintain Safe Distance:
Keep devices at least 18–24 inches away to reduce eye strain and protect posture.

šŸŒž 4. Encourage Outdoor Play:
Natural light helps prevent nearsightedness. Let them play, explore, and rest their eyes.

🩺 5. Schedule Regular Eye Exams:
Don’t wait for complaints—early detection can prevent long-term vision problems.

Thank you to the Rehab Department of Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh for the kind invitation to speak in conjunction with Patient Safety Week 2025.

It was a meaningful session discussing ā€œThe Effect of Visual and Drugs Towards Fallā€ā€”a topic that deserves attention as falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults and patients with chronic conditions.

Together with a fellow pharmacist, we explored how vision issues and certain medications can significantly increase fall risk—often overlooked, but highly preventable with awareness and proactive care.

This forum was a great reminder of the power of a multidisciplinary approach, where doctors, pharmacists, therapists, and nurses work hand-in-hand to improve patient safety and outcomes.

Because when it comes to preventing falls, every small step counts. šŸ‘£

Honoured to be invited as one of the speakers at the Clareon Vivity Launch by Alcon, held recently in Melaka.

It was a privilege to share the stage with esteemed peers and present on ā€œThe Evolution of IOLs: What Makes Clareon Stand Outā€ā€”a topic that resonates deeply as we continue to advance the frontiers of intraocular lens technology.

Sharing this with a room full of fellow ophthalmologists made the experience all the more meaningful. As we strive toward better surgical precision and visual outcomes, innovations like Clareon represent not just technical progress, but enhanced quality of life for our patients post-cataract surgery.

Grateful to Alcon for the invitation and for championing continuous medical education and collaboration within the ophthalmic community.

When was your last eye exam? Many people only visit the eye doctor when they notice a problem—but by then, it might be too late.

šŸ‘ļø Regular eye check-ups help detect silent issues like glaucoma, cataracts, and even diabetes-related eye disease before symptoms appear.

Here’s Dr. Kavitha’s simple age-by-age guide to keep your vision in check:

šŸ‘¶ Infants (6 months): A basic screening can detect issues like lazy eye or misalignment early.

šŸ§’ Preschoolers (age 3 & before school): Kids often can’t tell you they’re not seeing clearly—screenings help them learn better and thrive.

šŸ‘¦ Teens & Young Adults (around 18): Look out for blurry vision or frequent headaches. This is when myopia (short-sightedness) often starts to progress.

šŸ‘©ā€šŸ’» Adults (20–40): Get checked every 2 years—especially if you wear glasses or have a family history of eye problems.

šŸ‘µ Seniors (40+): Yearly exams are crucial to screen for glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration—conditions that progress silently.

🩺 Remember: Eye exams are more than just about glasses—they’re essential for your overall health.

Is cataract surgery as scary as it sounds? Not at all. šŸ‘ļø
In fact, it’s one of the safest and most effective procedures to restore your vision.

Here’s what you need to know:
1ļøāƒ£ The cloudy lens is replaced with a clear artificial lens (IOL)
2ļøāƒ£ The surgery only takes 15–30 minutes and is done under local anesthesia
3ļøāƒ£ Recovery is quick—most people are back to normal activities in days
4ļøāƒ£ You can choose a lens that fits your lifestyle, like for reading or reducing glasses

✨ Cataract surgery doesn’t just restore sight—it restores quality of life.
