Step 1: Catch the Impulse
You’re about to reach for a glass of water, step into the shower, or speak a word — Stop!

Step 2: Freeze Everything
No breathing. No movement. Stop totally — as if time has frozen.

Step 3: Let the Impulse Stay
Don’t suppress it — let the thirst, desire, or action remain. But keep the body still, the breath stopped, the mind paused.

Step 4: Wait and Watch
Don’t plan. Don’t anticipate. Just wait. In that stillness, energy moves inward. You are thrown to the center.

Step 5: Practice in Real Moments
Don’t rehearse. Only practice when a real impulse appears. Each glimpse into the center is powerful and transforming.

For the longest time, I avoided looking inward. It was easier to distract myself, to push aside uncomfortable emotions, and to ignore the parts of me I wasn’t proud of. But deep down, I knew I couldn’t run forever.

When I finally decided to face myself, it wasn’t easy. Confronting my fears and insecurities felt overwhelming, and there were moments I wanted to turn back. But as I sat with my emotions, something shifted.

Caring for others is one of the most beautiful and selfless acts we can do—but it can also be emotionally exhausting. Compassion fatigue, often called the “cost of caring,” happens when we give so much of ourselves that our emotional reserves run dry.
