On 4 February 2026 (Wednesday), the Department of Forensic Medicine conducted an official working visit to the Chemistry Department of Malaysia, Sabah Branch, Kota Kinabalu. The visit was also attended by staff from the department, led by the Head of HUMS Forensic Department, Prof. Dr. Zainal Arifin Mustapha, and the Head of the HUMS Pathology Department, Associate Prof. Dr. Nornazirah Azizan.

The visiting delegation was welcomed by the Director of the Chemistry Department, Ts. Harun Ahmad, and briefings from various units (DNA/Toxicology) within the Chemistry Department were also provided. The visit aimed to enhance understanding of medicolegal sample management, familiarize participants with the functions of various units and instrumentation, and explore opportunities for closer collaboration.

A Q&A session and laboratory tour were also conducted to provide insight into the workflow of the Chemistry Department. Our highest appreciation is extended to all parties for their cooperation and commitment.

Prepared by MLT Siti Norhazanarina, this infographic discusses each blood component and its function, as well as how they are applied in patient treatment and management.

✨ Pathology Appreciation Dinner 2025 ✨
The Departments of Pathology & Microbiology, FPSK in collaboration with the Department of Pathology, HUMS proudly hosted the Pathology Appreciation Dinner on 13th December 2025 at the Kimanis Ballroom, Hyatt Regency Kota Kinabalu, themed Denim & Diamond. The elegant evening brought together academicians, clinicians, laboratory professionals, and staff in a celebration of appreciation, unity, and excellence.

The event was honoured by the presence of the Director of Hospital Universiti Malaysia Sabah (HUMS) and the Deputy Director (Clinical) of HUMS, adding distinction to the occasion. MS ISO 15189:2022 International Workshop
(18th – 19th September 2025 @ Raia Hotel, Kota Kinabalu)

Jointly organized by the Department of Pathology and Microbiology, FPSK, UMS & Department of Pathology, HUMS.

The MS ISO 15189:2022 International Workshop, themed “Medical Laboratories – Requirements for Quality and Competence”, was successfully held from 18–19 September 2025 at Raia Hotel, Kota Kinabalu. The event brought together around 150 participants, including representatives from government hospitals and private laboratories across Malaysia, as well as international delegates from Myanmar and Vietnam.

We were truly honoured by the presence of the Director of HUMS, Associate Professor Dr. Hjh. Malehah Mohd Noh, who warmly delivered her welcoming speech to all the participants. We were also deeply privileged to have the Dean of FMHS, Datuk Dr. Mohd Yusof bin Hj. Ibrahim, deliver the officiating speech and officially commenced the workshop. The presence of the Clinical Deputy Director – Dr. Abdul Jabbar Ismail, the Head of Department – AP Dr. Nornazirah Azizan, and the Head of Administration of FMHS – Mr. Talib Abdullah Shani further graced the occasion, reflecting their support and commitment towards the success of the workshop.

The workshop featured two keynote speakers: Mdm. Fariza binti Hj. Wan Abdullah, Senior Principal Assistant Director, Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM), and Dr. Ehram Jamian, Hematopathology Specialist, Sultanah Aminah Hospital, Johor Bahru.

The success of this workshop was made possible through the strong support of HUMS and FMHS top management, as well as the commitment of the Head of the Department of Pathology, the Program Chair, and the dedicated collaboration of the HUMS-FMHS organizing committee.

In conclusion, the MS ISO 15189:2022 International Workshop successfully achieved its objectives. The program provided valuable benefits not only to the organizers but also to participants from both local and international backgrounds.
