Organ donation efforts in Sabah have been ongoing since 1995, with awareness campaigns and pledge registration drives. To support the donation process at the hospital level, the Tissue and Organ Procurement Team (TOP Team) was later formed at Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Kota Kinabalu. Following the 2008 Ministry of Health directive, the Regional Transplant Procurement Management Unit (RTPMU) was established in 2012 to oversee the organ donation program across Sabah, Labuan F.T., and Lawas (northern Sarawak). This social media page, A Gift of Life Sabah, was launched on 24 July 2012 and has since been actively conducting public awareness campaigns, publishing educational materials, and addressing doubts and misconceptions about organ donation. On 12 July 2014, RTPMU developed to PSTS focusing on public awareness, hospital staff training, and clinical coordination in organ donation activities for Sabah.
