Stroke remain a condition with high morbidity and mortality. Stroke happens as a result of insufficient blood and oxygen supply to the brain. 3 main types of stroke are artery rupture (hemorrhagic), blood clot blockage (embolism) and plaque obstruction (atherosclerosis).

Rupture of blood vessel causes blood to accumulate in brain, which compress brain tissue and cause damage. Thereafter, inflammation occurs. The biochemicals released from the damaged blood vessel and inflammation process further damage brain tissue.

In atherosclerosis, plaque form in the blood vessel, either plaque buildup completely obstruct blood vessel, or the thin fibrous cap of plaque rupture and cause blood clot that completely block the blood vessel. Either way, blood vessel will be obstructed and therefore cannot deliver oxygen to the brain tissue. Brain tissue that couldn't get oxygen will die. When brain tissue die, they release biochemicals that will further damage the brain tissue.

For embolism, bloot clot that form elsewhere travels to the blood vessel that supplies the brain and obstruct the vessel. This also causes brain tissue to be deprived from oxygen and die.

Fatty liver diseases that is not cause by over consumption of alcohol is classified under the broad umbrella of 'non-alcoholic fatty liver disease'. Majorty of these diseases start with hepatitis. The initial stages are still reversible if the triger is eliminated.

However, when the disease has progressed to liver cirrhosis, which is the liver scarring, the process is irreversible. The disease will ultimately progress to liver cancer.

The solution at the irreversible stage of liver disease is liver transplantation. However, due various reasons which are lack of organ donor, expensive operation cost, rejection which require life-long immunosupression therapy, liver transplantation remains limited in its usage.

Stem cell therapy can help in this situation. Because of the homing and differentiation ability of stem cell, there are chances for patients to recover from end-stage liver failure.

High cholesterol level in blood give rise to the risk of plaque formation, which eventually might cause artery blockage. When blockage happens in the artery that supplies blood to the heart mucsle (coronary artery), heart attack will happen.

Wondering how stem cells have anti-aging effect ?

The overall appearance of aging is often caused by the aging and dying of our body cells.

Aging and dying of cells can be caused by natural aging, life illneses or trauma. Stem cells functions as the "replacement cells" to replace and renew these aging and dying cells.

However, the amount of stem cells in our body decreases as we age. This explains why children recover faster from sickness as compared to elderly.

By going through stem cell therapy, we replenish the body with great amount of stem cells. Thereby, we can effectively slow down aging process and speed up healing process.

Find out how stem cells work in our body from the poster below !

What is Mesenchymal stem cell ?

Mesenchymal stem cells is a type of stem cells that has excellent ability to multiply and differentiate into mutiple organ cells such as bone cells, fat cells, cartilage cells, nerve cells, liver cells, etc.

This ability of stem cells has been proven to have therapeutic effects on individuals with conditions such as cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease and diabetes. Stem cells therapy also improves overall quality of life of individuals.

Stroke is leading causes of death and disability worldwide.

There is two types of stroke, ischemic stroke and haemorrhagic stroke.

Our brain requires 20% of cardiac output, as it stores no energy on its own, disruption of oxygen supply even for short duration can lead to catastrophic damage. Current treatment aim to recanalize occluded vessel to rescue penumbra zone. However, these measures need to be take in short period.

On the other hand, cell therapy is indicated to ameliorate sequelae and neurological deficits in all phases post stroke.

Diabetes mellitus, leading chronic disease globally including Malaysia.

ℍ𝕠𝕨 𝕞𝕦𝕔𝕙 𝕕𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕜𝕟𝕠𝕨 𝕒𝕓𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕕𝕚𝕒𝕓𝕖𝕥𝕖𝕤?

There is two types of diabetes type 1 and type 2. Diabetes takes place as our pancreas fail to secrete sufficient insulin, thus high blood sugar in circulating blood will bring upon various complications such as myocardial infarction, chronic kidney disease, stroke, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic foot etc.

As insulin fails to act on consumed sugar, our body unable to utilise sugar consumed thus one may experiences lethargic despite binge eating.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where immune system attack own pancreas, causing pancreatic cells inflammation leading to 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲. Meanwhile, type 2 diabetes is due to 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 and impaired β cells of pancreas.

Cell therapy aims to 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 β 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀, thus initiating secretion of insulin for better glycemic control as improvement in glycemic control is key to prevent complication from diabetes.

Current medical therapy focus on ameliorating hyperglycemia and temporarily improve insulin sensitivity, but this is unable to reverse insulin resistance.

𝗠𝗦𝗖𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀
1. Differentiate into insulin-producing cells (IPCs)
2. Promote regeneration of pancreatic β islet cells
3. Ameliorate insulin resistance of peripheral tissue
4. Protect endogenous pancreatic β islet cells
4. Exert anti-inflammatory effects to improve microenvironment of diabetics
