Slowing down in grief is not just normal, but crucial. A slower pace is what allows you the space and energy to thoughtfully rebuild a world that has been completely shattered. Be easy on yourself.

Emotions are our internal guide- giving us a sense of direction.

When an emotion comes up, you might check in with yourself and see what the emotion guides you towards knowing. You might also return to one of the following definitions to help direct your focus toward that knowing.

Here's how some of our emotions guide and inform:

🔹 Anxiety informs us that we are experiencing a loss of control, a lack of agency, and/or intolerance of uncertainty and the unknown.

🔹 Anger informs us that our boundaries are being challenged or violated.

🔹 Sadness guides us to attend to loss and possibly withdraw or move inward to preserve our energy and resources.

🔹 Surprise informs us something unexpected has happened and activates our senses to gather more information in the environment.

🔹 Fear informs us we need to respond to a dangerous situation (perceived or real).

🔹 Joy informs us we have witnessed or experienced something that brings us towards well-being (and our goals).

🔹 Disgust informs us something is interacting with our values in a challenging and/or violating way.

ℹ🌿 15 COMMON SIGNS OF UNRESOLVED TRAUMA |

Recognizing the signs of unresolved trauma can be tricky. Sometimes people who are having difficulties enter therapy without even knowing that they have suffered the trauma that is causing disruptions in their daily lives. The very nature of trauma lends itself to that. Often, when a person goes through a traumatic event, there is some degree of dissociation that happens and the person essentially "blocks out" all, or part, of the event, so his or her awareness of the trauma isn't accurate, making diagnosis difficult. However, there are some common signs of unresolved trauma that you can look for.
