Today’s forum on “Malaysia’s Preparedness in Facing an Ageing Population” highlighted the urgent need for an inclusive, age-friendly health system as we approach 2030, when over 15% of Malaysians will be aged 60 and above. We discussed key issues such as chronic disease management, elder-friendly healthcare, active community engagement, and insights from Japan and Singapore. The takeaway: healthy ageing is not just a health agenda—it’s a national priority requiring collaboration across government, professionals, communities, and older adults themselves.

The 4th National Epidemiology Conference (NEC2025), held virtually from 22nd till 24th April 2025, successfully brought together public health professionals, researchers, and policymakers under the theme *"Precision Epidemiology: The Way Forward."* The event was organized by the Malaysian Association of Epidemiology (MAE), with support from the Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, in collaboration with the Pahang Public Health Physician Association and the Pahang State Health Department. The event focused on innovative, data-driven approaches to modern epidemiology, especially in the context of evolving health threats.

The conference kicked off with a pre-conference workshop on April 22, offering in-depth, training on the latest trends in epidemiology, including AI integration in disease surveillance and the use of big data in precision health strategies.

Over the following two days, participants engaged in keynote speeches, panel discussions, and scientific presentations from local and international experts. Topics covered included:
• Applications of machine learning in health trend forecasting
• Community-level interventions for non-communicable and communicable diseases
• Environmental epidemiology and climate-resilient health systems
• Innovations in infectious disease control and vaccine strategies

A total of over 100 abstracts were accepted and presented, with selected papers published in the Borneo Epidemiology Journal (BEJ). The event successfully brought together a crowd of more than 400 public health professionals and researchers.

Overall, NEC2025 reinforced the critical role of epidemiology in shaping evidence-based public health decisions and preparing for future health challenges through precision and partnership.
