🔥 PAINFUL DIABETIC PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY 🔥

*KNOCK KNOCK*

"Come in Mr.M. How are you? What can I do for you?" I asked.

"Not good doctor. The doctors from the Diabetic Clinic asked me to come over to see you, as my feet pain is bad. You see, I was just diagnosed of diabetes mellitus few months ago." he replied.

"I am just 58 year old, gonna retire soon; CEO of a company. I should be enjoying life, but everything is falling apart. I feel very frustrated; and I feel ashamed in front my own sons." he added and was close to tears.

"Mr. M, I am sorry to hear that; it must hard for you ... I will do my best to help. Why don't you tell me more about your pain? How are you managing it? What medications are you on?" I asked.

"Both of my feet feel numb, but I feel pins and needles; burning pain all the time. Worse at night and during cold weather. The doctor said this is due to nerve pain from my diabetes."

"I'm taking Pregabalin which seems to help a bit. Tramadol helps a lot; but the doctor and I are worried that I may get addicted to it as Tramadol is a bit like morphine" he said.

"Mr. M, let's come out with a plan an see whether it works for you. Let's get your pain under control first .... continue the Pregabalin and take the Tramadol every night. Don't worry about addiction now ... as your pain gets better, our goal is to take you off the meds" I said.

"Most important is, you must get your blood sugar under control. Once your pain is better, get back to your physical activities and your job. I assure you, once your life is back on track; you will be able to manage your pain, and we will take you off Tramadol, or even Pregabalin." I assured him.

"Thank you, Dr."

Over the next few weeks, we were able to follow through with our plan. His diabetes was under excellent control, with meds and especially with lifestyle modifications. With that, he was able to manage his pain and able to come off medications.
