Here's a story we tell ourselves as we get older.

That the stiffness in the morning is just part of ageing. That it's normal to feel less flexible at 50 than you did at 30. That the body just… winds down.

Here's the truth: some loss of mobility is a natural part of getting older. But a lot of what we accept as inevitable is actually the result of how we move — or more accurately, how little we move.

Mobility isn't just about touching your toes. It's about being able to reach up for something on a high shelf without wincing. Turning to reverse your car without straining your neck. Playing with your grandchildren on the floor and getting back up again without help.

These are the moments that quietly shape your quality of life.

When you find out surgery is coming, it's natural to go into "wait and see" mode. Rest up, take it easy, let the doctors handle the rest.

We understand that instinct. But we'd gently like to offer a different perspective. The weeks leading up to surgery are actually one of the most powerful windows you have. Pre-rehabilitation — or "pre-hab" — is the practice of strengthening your body before going under the knife.

And the research behind it is compelling: patients who come into surgery with stronger muscles and better conditioning tend to recover faster, regain mobility sooner, and often experience less post-operative pain.
