At 31, Chia Wee Tat is a working adult who has been living with congenital heart disease since birth. He was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), a condition where the heart’s main arteries are reversed, causing oxygen-poor blood to circulate through the body.

Despite the challenges, Wee Tat has continued to move forward with resilience. Recently, he underwent a dual-chamber pacemaker box replacement, a procedure to replace the device battery that helps regulate the heart’s upper and lower chambers.

Today, his wounds have fully healed, and he has returned to work in a better and stronger condition.

Beyond surgeries and procedures, access to heart-aiding devices like pacemakers plays a vital role in helping patients live more regular, independent lives. Through the support of the IJN Foundation, patients like Wee Tat are able to receive not just treatment, but the essential devices that keep their hearts in rhythm.

Together, we can help more individuals regain stability, independence, and hope for the future. Be part of a journey that keeps hearts beating strong.

At 17, Hazrul has already faced more than most. Born with congenital heart disease, he underwent multiple major surgeries at a young age. Yet, through it all, he rarely complained, often feeling no pain or symptoms, leaving his mother quietly worried as she watched over him.

Restricted from high-intensity activities in school, Hazrul grew up learning to adapt. It was during his routine yearly follow-ups that doctors discovered his condition was gradually deteriorating, despite how well he seemed on the outside.

Given his medical history, a minimally invasive approach was chosen to reduce risk and support a smoother recovery. Hazrul underwent a Percutaneous Pulmonary Valve Implantation (PPVI), a procedure to replace his damaged pulmonary valve using a catheter-delivered valve device, without the need for another open-heart surgery.

The outcome brought new light. Just two weeks later, Hazrul was discharged, stronger and on the path to a better quality of life.

Today, he is back in school. With renewed determination and a stronger heart, Hazrul has even begun light weight training at home, taking small but meaningful steps towards a healthier future.

Through continuous advancements in cardiovascular care and access to innovative treatment options like PPVI, patients like Hazrul are given more than recovery. They are given the chance to live fuller, healthier lives.

Together, we can keep hearts beating with hope. https://tinyurl.com/23psjakf

Every heartbeat carries a story, and sometimes that story needs more than medicine alone. This second quarter, IJN Foundation (IJNF) carries the theme ‘Powered by Hope’, reflecting how compassion and medical innovation come together to sustain life and restore possibility.

IJNF continues to support life-saving care that goes beyond procedures and surgeries. It reaches patients who need advanced medical technologies and heart-aid devices but may not have the means to access them, helping them regain strength, independence, and a better quality of life.

At the same time, IJNF actively supports clinical research and studies that advance cardiovascular care. By empowering innovation and medical discovery, new treatments, devices, and technologies can be developed to improve outcomes and elevate patient care.

For a parent, it may mean regaining the strength to continue supporting their family. For a child with heart disease, it may mean returning to school and enjoying the simple rhythms of childhood. For an elderly patient, it may mean staying active, independent, and continuing to contribute to the community they cherish.

Because when compassion fuels innovation, care becomes more than treatment. It becomes dignity, opportunity, and hope powering every heartbeat forward.

At 58, Mohadjar is a husband and father of seven. No longer working, he lives a modest life with his wife, 55, a devoted housewife who cares for their family at home. Together, they have spent years raising their children with resilience, doing their best to make ends meet despite limited means.

Mohadjar began experiencing persistent chest pain and shortness of breath for an entire week. At first, he brushed aside the discomfort, hoping it would pass. But as his condition worsened, he was rushed to a hospital in Tapah. After evaluation, he was referred to Institut Jantung Negara to undergo an angioplasty, a procedure used to open narrowed or blocked arteries and restore blood flow to the heart.

Following the procedure, Mohadjar was discharged in a more stable condition and will continue his follow-up care at IJN for the next stage of treatment.

Behind every recovery is a network of compassion. Through the support of donors and partners of the IJN Foundation, underprivileged patients like Mohadjar are given access to the heart care they urgently need.

Together, we can continue to open doors to life-saving treatment. By partnering with IJN Foundation, you can help make a meaningful difference in someone’s life today.

Walking is one of the simplest ways to stay active and care for your heart. It is low-impact, accessible to almost anyone, and easy to build into daily routines.

Small lifestyle changes such as choosing the stairs instead of the lift, taking a short walk after meals, or adding a few extra steps to your day can help improve circulation, support healthy blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease over time.

In support of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, IJN Foundation continues to raise heart health awareness by encouraging simple, sustainable habits that promote a healthier lifestyle.

Because sometimes the smallest steps can lead to the strongest hearts.

Syawal is a month to celebrate our collective success, reunite with loved ones near and far, and embrace the spirit of forgiveness. As we enjoy these festive moments, may this season remind us of our many blessings and the vital importance of extending generosity to those around us.

While many celebrate in joy, some underprivileged heart patients remain on their journey to recovery and may not be able to spend Hari Raya with their families. This Raya, let our gratitude inspire acts of kindness and compassion. Through the Patient Assistance Programme, your contributions bring hope to underprivileged heart patients awaiting life-saving treatment.

May this Hari Raya remind us that together, our compassion can help mend hearts and bring healing where it is needed most.

At 47, Ahmad Shafirul carries more than passengers as a driver. He carries the hopes of his family. Married with five children, he and his wife both work, each in their own workplaces, doing their best to keep their household afloat.

In 2006, Shafirul was diagnosed with a leaky mitral valve, and later with ischaemic heart disease caused by narrowed arteries. He underwent an angiogram in 2023 and recovered. Recently, he was unable to ignore the lingering discomfort that continued to affect his daily life and ability to work.

Knowing he could not ignore his health any longer, Shafirul made the difficult decision to seek further treatment. The cost, however, was far beyond what his family could afford. Through the IJN Foundation Patient Assistance Programme (PAP), Shafirul was able to undergo the surgery he needed.

Today, he has been discharged and is focusing on recovery. While he is unable to return to work during his post-surgery recovery and remains on strict medication for the next six months, his heart is healing, and hope is steadily returning.

With your support, we can help more underprivileged heart patients receive the care they need, when they need it most, because their families need them just as much.

Together, we can keep hearts beating with hope.

At just 23, Norfarisha Irwayu from Melaka is a young housewife beginning life with her 26-year-old husband. Like many young couples, they live simply, holding onto dreams while managing limited means.

Norfarisha was born with a congenital heart defect known as a bicuspid aortic valve, a condition where the heart valve has only two flaps instead of three. In 2009, she suffered from infective endocarditis, which severely worsened her condition and led to significant aortic valve regurgitation despite her existing heart defect.

Over the years, her health gradually declined. Simple activities became difficult as she experienced increasing breathlessness and frequent light-headedness. Following further diagnostic tests, her condition was deemed urgent, and she needed to undergo complex open-heart surgery to save her life.

The surgery offered hope, but the cost was far beyond what the young couple could afford. Through the IJN Foundation Patient Assistance Programme, Norfarisha was able to receive life-saving treatment, made possible by the generosity of our compassionate donors.

Today, she has been discharged and continues her recovery at home. Her condition has improved significantly, and with every steady heartbeat, her future feels possible again.

Resilience is defined by the courage to love despite the odds. Congenital heart patients deserve every second chance to walk down the aisle, to build a family, and to be cherished. A medical history is not a limit on a heart’s capacity for happiness.

With your support, we can help more underprivileged heart patients receive timely care and a fair chance at healing.

Donate today and help sustain the heartbeat of hope.

We at the IJN Foundation (IJNF) wish all women a happy International Women’s Day.

Today, we celebrate women in all the roles they hold in our lives. Our mothers and grandmothers, sisters and daughters, aunts and nieces, friends and caregivers. We honour their strength, resilience, and the quiet courage they show every day.

International Women’s Day is also a reminder that women’s health matters. Every woman deserves equal access to life-saving treatment, support, and the chance to live well.

As we continue working towards reduced inequalities, we stand in support of women heart patients and their families, advocating for care that is compassionate, accessible, and inclusive. Because when women are cared for, families grow stronger and communities thrive.

Today and every day, we celebrate women and the hearts that carry so much love, strength, and hope.

For the hearts we love.

Wishing all Muslims a meaningful and blessed Nuzul Al-Quran.

On Nuzul Al-Quran, we commemorate the revelation of the Holy Quran, a reminder of guidance, mercy, and the importance of living with compassion and purpose.

This meaningful day invites us to reflect on values that shape a just and caring society, including empathy, responsibility, and service to others.

Guided by these principles, the IJN Foundation’s Patient Assistance Programme helps support underprivileged heart patients by improving access to essential cardiac care and treatment.

As we continue sustaining the heartbeat of hope, may this day inspire reflection that leads to action and faith that strengthens our care for one another.

At 79, Ali bin Ahmad lives a quiet, modest life with his wife. Their days are simple, shared in a small flat with their son, a single father raising three young children on his own. With limited means, his son does his best to support his children while also caring for his parents’ basic needs.

One ordinary morning at the bustling Chow Kit Market, Ali suddenly felt dizzy and struggled to breathe while buying groceries. What began as a routine errand quickly turned into a medical emergency.

Ali was rushed to Institut Jantung Negara, where he underwent an emergency angioplasty and spent five days under close care. Today, he is recovering at home. Even short walks leave him exhausted, so he rests most of the day, getting up only to bathe, eat, and perform his prayers.

His journey is a reminder that heart disease does not discriminate by age, income, or circumstance. For families already facing financial strain, access to timely treatment can mean the difference between despair and hope.

At IJN Foundation, we believe that no one should be denied life-saving heart care because of financial hardship. By reducing inequalities and widening access to healthcare, we help patients like Ali receive the treatment they urgently need.

Together, we can give more underprivileged heart patients a fair chance to heal. Your support can turn moments of crisis into stories of hope.
