Why Remove an Impacted Wisdom Tooth?
Main Idea: To prevent future problems. It's easier and safer to remove it before it causes pain and damage.
Key Problems It Prevents:
1. Infection & Pain
· Partially erupted teeth create a gum flap that traps food and bacteria.
· This causes recurring, painful swelling and infection (Pericoronitis).
2. Damage to Neighbor Tooth
· The impacted tooth can push against the molar in front of it.
· This causes cavities in both teeth and can damage the neighboring tooth's root.
3. Cysts
· The sac around the impacted tooth can fill with fluid and form a cyst.
· This cyst can destroy jawbone and damage nerves.
4. Crowding
· Can push other teeth, causing crowding, especially if you've had braces.

When is Removal Not Needed?
· If it's fully buried in bone and not harming anything.
· The patient is not healthy enough for surgery.
Best Time to Remove: For young adults (late teens, early 20s). Recovery is faster and easier.
