Preparing my outfit for tomorrow’s interview with a group of primary school children about careers in medicine and my journey as a doctor and surgeon.

Each pin on my white coat has its own special meaning.

Awards:

• Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (2014) – awarded when I became an independent General Surgeon.

• Fellowship from the JCST at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery (2016-2017) – marking my qualification as a Specialist Breast Surgeon.

• The George Cross (2021) – awarded by the late Queen Elizabeth II to all NHS staff, past and present, in recognition of over seven decades of service. The NHS was born on 5 July 1948. I served the NHS for 20 years. My daughter share the same birthday as the UK NHS 5 July. it was one of the first fully comprehensive healthcare systems that provided:
• Universal coverage for the entire population
• Free healthcare funded by taxation
• Care based on need, not ability to pay

In the same year of 2021, our Breast Surgery Team also won the Best Quality of Care Award in our NHS hospital.
