Thank you for this incredibly heartfelt letter from the daughter of one of my patients. 💌

Her mother had been suffering from breasts complications physically, emotionally and mentally. To be trusted with her care and to help her reclaim her health, confidence and quality of life is a privilege I never take lightly.

Moments like these remind me why I do what I do. I’m deeply grateful for the trust my patients and their families place in me.

For three long years my mum suffered physically, mentally and emotionally. During that time I carried constant anxiety, sadness and fear, spending countless sleepless nights watching her struggle. I saw her cry quietly, hide her pain, and still try to stay strong for me.

Thank you IHH and team for organising this wonderful event for us.
New sport. No paddle. No expectations.
But somehow a silver medal in women’s doubles at the IHH Inter-Hospital Consultant Pickleball Tournament!

My husband took men’s doubles champion, and our amazing colleagues swept mixed doubles gold & bronze. A total 18 of us from Prince Court Medical Centre stood together and became the overall champions. 🏆

Trying a new sport reminded me of what I see every day as a breast surgeon: we may feel alone in the beginning, but we are never alone in the fight.

Some battles are won, some are lost, but with belief, hope, dream, alignment, support, and collective strength, we can move with one purpose!

WE RISE. WE FIGHT. AND WE CAN WIN.

Here’s to trying, fighting, learning, and never giving up.

Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices, but the good news is they do not need to be routinely replaced every 10 years, which is a common misconception. Most women keep their implants for many years without any problems.
Replacement or removal is only needed if issues arise, such as:
• Rupture or leak
• Painful capsular contracture
• Infection
• Implant malposition or exposure
• Significant changes in skin thickness
• Patient choice for cosmetic reasons
There is also a very rare lymphoma associated with certain textured implants called BIA-ALCL. This risk is extremely low, and smooth implants, which are commonly used in reconstruction today, are not associated with it. Awareness is key, if swelling or lumps appear years after surgery, they should be checked promptly. ❤️
Overall, breast implant reconstruction is safe, effective, and provides long-lasting results for most patients, offering excellent aesthetic and psychological benefits.
