Ten years on since this was published, this article is still very relevant with the increasing number of primary and secondary cases.

Things to be aware about:

1. If the ankle is SWOLLEN AND BRUISED, something must be injured. Bruising is internal bleeding from a damaged structure.

2. If the ankle DOES NOT GET BTTER by conventional icing and rest, something must be wrong.

3. If the ankle DOES NOT FEEL STABLE, something must be wrong.

4. If its STILL PAINFUL, this would be another sign to worry about.
