💢 SURGICAL REMOVAL OF MESIODENS @ SUPERNUMERARY TOOTH PRIOR ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT💢
What is mesiodens
✅ A mesiodens is an extra tooth, often small and cone-shaped, found in the midline of the upper jaw between the two central incisors.
✅ It’s a supernumerary tooth, meaning it’s an extra tooth beyond the normal set of 32 permanent teeth.
Why it’s a problem ?
✅ Mesiodens can block or delay the eruption of the permanent central incisors.
✅Misalignment:
They can cause the permanent incisors to erupt in the wrong position (ectopic eruption) or become rotated or displaced.
✅ Malocclusion:
Mesiodens can contribute to improper bite alignment, affecting the way teeth come together when chewing.
✅Cyst formation:
In some cases, a mesiodens can develop into a dentigerous cyst.
✅ Aesthetic issues:
A mesiodens can cause an undesirable gap (diastema) between the central incisors and affect a person’s smile.
.
Treatment option?
✅ surgically removed under local anaesthesia / general anesthesia if its embedded / impacted
✅ extraction if its erupted
✅ need braces treatment to close the extraction space
