[Specialist speakers alert!] It's impossible to cover all specialisations in medicine as it is an extremely broad field, hence it has come down to these four in AIM 2022 - Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery and Palliative Care. Experts will be introducing what it is they do on a daily basis and the highlights of their respective specialisations.

Is Emergency Medicine as dramatic and chaotic as portrayed in TV shows? How do doctors keep their cool within the critical time for management?

What kinds of disease can afflict children such that they have to become regulars in the paediatric ward? How is it different treating a child versus an adult?

Surgery is the most glamorized and popular field among starry-eyed students, but how is it really like working as a surgeon? What does it take to become a surgeon?

What is the point of palliative care when the patients are already at the brink of death? How does palliative care differ from most other specialisations?

“Is medicine right for you?” This is the one question we all have to grapple with before even thinking about the application process. What grounds should we base our true answer on? AIM 2022 is happy to bring perspectives from three doctors of different stages in their careers. You’ll get to hear how a house officer (Dr. Nor Adriana Tan), a medical officer (Dr. Kelvin Siew) and a professional consultant (Prof. Madya Dr. Nur Amani Binti Ahmad Tajuddin) would answer that very question. Expect various angles to work out the answer as they each have accumulated different levels of experience up till now.

[Alternatives to Medicine] Our nation’s healthcare system is not just made up of doctors - nurses, biomedical researchers and lab technicians are just as noble! Professor Dr. Muhammad Yazid Jalaludin, our deputy dean of undergraduate studies, will introduce to you two other courses under the Faculty of Medicine. Do pop in for this sharing session if you are considering Nursing Sciences and/or Biomedical Sciences as your future career.

[An Introduction to Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI)] MMI is the bread and butter for most medical schools’ screening processes, and that’s why we have experienced students to tell you what to expect from it. Rest assured that you will gain a better understanding on how to bring out your best potential in these nerve-wracking interviews. Save the date so you can meet both of these brilliant speakers!

[Applying to Medical School] We know that people go to medical schools to become doctors, but what exactly is it that we have to learn here? How do we eventually gain adequate knowledge and skills to become a professional healthcare provider? Dr. Hong Wei-Han will show you how University of Malaya’s medical curriculum is structured to provide a holistic learning experience for medical students. She will also guide you through the official admission process to gain entry into studying medicine in UM. With her expertise in medical education, this is a source of information you can definitely rely on.

[Student speakers] To all PASUM/ Kolej Matrikulasi / A-Levels/ STPM/ Foundation in Science students - yes, to ALL of you - do you know how to use your qualification to apply for a spot in Universiti Malaya’s Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course?
