GOMUKHASANA (Half Cow Face Pose) is a visually deceiving seated pose. An obvious knot releaser for our shoulders and neck from all the smartphone usage we do everyday, this asana is also a big hip opener to help loosen up tight hip joints from too much sitting, driving, running, cycling or weightlifting.

Our teachers at Upward Yoga emphasize on physiological benefits on most poses during your classes with us especially in BREATHE STRETCH HEAL, instead of simply giving you names of poses to get you there; as we believe that yoga not only improves one’s flexibility, strength and balance but done with guidance and visualization, yoga can heal you too.

This asana works amazing in recharging the mobility of the wrists as they are positioned in Reverse Prayer and also serves as an electronic device detox from our hands; on top of lengthening our hamstrings and exercising the squaring of the hips.

Done regularly and paired with healing visualization + safe adjustment from experienced teachers, Baddha Konasana helps: regulate our monthly moon cycle, eliminate period cramps and balance our mood & hormones during ovulation and menstruation.

UTTANASANA (Standing Forward Bend) or also called vinyasa Dve / 2 in Ashtanga Sun Salutation is one of the most repeated poses in physical yoga class.

Good forward bends not only lengthen the hamstrings but also speed up our digestion.

In classes at Upward Yoga, we promote having stomach pressed close to the thighs than working on trying to touch your head to the knee / shin as the latter might make you round your upper back using the (lack of) length of your spine.

We emphasize on sharing physiological benefits of the poses in our classes as more than just an amazing physical workout, with proper alignment and held in stillness; yoga can heal.

We take pride in being the only yoga studio you might have ever heard of, that does not sell anymore more than drop-in classes.

Rest assured we won't ever sell you any packages or force you to sign-up monthly / one-year / lifetime membership as we do not have them on our menu.

At Upward Yoga, since we opened our door in 2011; we have been keeping it low-tech and low overhead (we don't even have a website or a receptionist / sales team) so we can keep offering affordable, no frills and life-changing yoga classes for everyone.

We do not offer anything else (although we do offer complimentary head massage after your practice) but honest intention to share good teaching and healing benefits of yoga.
