It was a short but deeply insightful trip to Melaka, where we brought together leading experts to share insights on the growing role of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists (GLP-1RA) in managing Type 2 Diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The programme featured insightful presentations by our Consultant Cardiologists, Dr Jayakhanthan Kolanthaivelu and Dr Al Fazir Omar, as well as Dr Yew Siong Shong, Consultant Nephrologist from Mahkota Medical Centre. Together, they shared key perspectives, highlighting the critical connection between heart, kidney, and metabolic health while addressing real case challenges and patient-centered solutions.

A lively panel discussion, moderated by Dr Julian Tey Hock Chuan, Consultant Cardiologist from Oriental Melaka Straits Medical Centre, encouraged valuable exchanges of knowledge and clinical experience among speakers and participants.

The Peripheral Vascular Health (PVH) Masterclass in Bangkok, Thailand is a regional event bringing together vascular specialists from across Southeast Asia for in-depth discussions on emerging trends, complex case management, and advanced techniques in peripheral vascular interventions.

Dr Tan Kia Lean, Consultant Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon from CVSKL shared his experience on Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), addressing key regional challenges such as public awareness and healthcare system gaps. He also presented on Type II endoleak management, sharing practical insights on pre- and post-coiling strategies in endovascular repair.

In a separate session, Dr Tan took part in discussions comparing Claudicant and Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI), offering valuable perspectives on decision-making in advanced Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). He also led hands-on training sessions focused on practical CVI management, promoting clinical knowledge sharing and skill-building among participants.
