Tonight felt a little extra special. I decided to get all dolled up, and to my surprise, I was nominated as one of the Best Dressed! What a sweet and unexpected moment. It was such fun doing a little catwalk to show off the beautiful dress, thanks to Runway Story 💃

Always a joy catching up with friends, especially those I haven’t seen in a while 💫

On a more serious note, what I truly admire about is their unwavering commitment to education. I’m incredibly honoured to receive the Educator Award. Here’s to continuing our mission to raise awareness and empower both doctors and patients through knowledge.

A memory to cherish. This year’s APAO in New Delhi was a meaningful blend of learning and connection. Over the three-day conference, I gained valuable new insights while also enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues—a highlight I always look forward to at every meeting.

We managed to fit in the APSOPRS Council Meeting, and I’m excited about the upcoming initiatives we have planned in the months ahead. I had the privilege of presenting my technique, the Minimally Invasive Eyelid Lift (MINEL)—a skin-preserving approach to upper blepharoplasty, a topic I’m extremely passionate about. I also participated in the instruction course, sharing my experience with minimally invasive methods for creating natural-looking double eyelids.

A special highlight was finally meeting Dr. Richard Allen in person. I’ve learned so much from his YouTube videos over the years, and it was exciting to exchange thoughts with him on MINEL.

Another prominent figure I had the privilege of meeting was Dr. Clement Tham. I was thrilled to learn that he’s originally from Malaysia and now based in Hong Kong. It’s always inspiring to see fellow Malaysians making a global impact in the field of ophthalmology.

The journey of continuous learning and teaching never stops—and I’m grateful to be part of it.

A Cautionary Tale: Filler Complications & Double Vision

A patient was referred to me after experiencing vision problems following a lower eyelid filler injection by a beautician falsely claiming to be a doctor. Three days after the procedure, her eyelids swelled, and she developed double vision, making her unable to drive. After a week without improvement, she consulted an ophthalmologist and referred to me.

Ultrasound revealed filler had been injected into her eye bag area and orbit, explaining her visual symptoms. Using ultrasound-guided injection, I dissolved the filler, and she immediately noticed improved vision by about 50%. She is expected to recover further in the next two days or so. She will return next week for follow up.

The lesson? Be extremely cautious about who you trust with facial injections—especially around the eyes. She was lucky her eyeball wasn’t injured, which could have led to blindness. Never allow unqualified individuals to inject your face!

Thrilled to share that my editorial on the correct terminology for double eyelid surgery—East Asian Blepharoplasty—has been officially published in the PRS Journal!

This topic has been close to my heart for years. The term “Asian Blepharoplasty” is still commonly used, but it’s a misnomer that oversimplifies the rich diversity of facial features across Asia. By adopting more precise language like East Asian Blepharoplasty, we foster a better understanding of cultural and anatomical distinctions.
