Heard of Essential Oil (EO) but not too sure what it is? Here are some information.
☞ Fragrance and EO are NOT the same thing. EO defined as “highly concentrated plant constituents possessing potent medicinal and cosmetic qualities.” Aromatherapy is just one part of the use of EO. Fragrance is generally defined as "perfume."
☞ Most EO are high in antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties. Very good to protect against exposure to bacteria, fungus and virus.
☞ EO are absorbed well by the skin and do not accumulate in the body over time – they simply offer up their healing properties and then pass on through.
☞ Scientific studies have shown that EO helps brain function, memory recall and improves mood. There are studies also showed that groups that inhaled EO felt much more relaxed.
☞ EO are wholly natural and cannot be patented; which means that you’ll never see an EO in a pharmaceutical drug and that the vast majority of mainstream healthcare practitioners will never recommend EO as therapeutic alternatives to drugs. This explains its lack of publicity.
☞ Drug companies will not waste money studying EO, again because it can't be patented. This limits the scientific knowledge of EO and the majority of what we know about them are things that have been passed down through thousands of years of personal use and experiences. Today, however many companies have acknowledged the benefits and potential of EO and are investing more money into its research.
☞ Not necessary to take EO internally. While some EO may be used well-diluted in something like toothpaste with safety, it’s generally recognized that there’s no need to take EO internally.
☞ EO is very cost-effective to use. Because EO are so concentrated and only a tiny amount is needed in anything you do, they’ll last you a very, very long time even years. Hopefully that thought will help mitigate the cost involved in using EO.
☞ Store your essential oils in dark glass bottles (which they were probably packaged in) and out of direct sunlight. This is simply to help preserve their potency.
