Cactus fruit is rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients that contribute to a healthy body, both externally and internally. According to scientific studies, cactus and cactus fruit may play a vital role in promoting a healthy immune system and wound-healing experiments. Cactus fruit has seven times more antioxidants than vitamin C. According to experimental reports, the nutrients and antioxidants found in various plant foods, such as the cactus and cactus fruit, may help prevent DNA damage, promote wound healing, encourage phagocytic activity and improve the skin’s texture and appearance.

More and more people are eating an unhealthy diet high in linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid commonly found in some vegetable oils. Linoleic acid has been known to promote inflammation and even heart disease. However, new research shows that a high intake of linoleic acid during pregnancy can cause contractions of the uterus, and reduce the hormone that regulates growth and development. This can result in pregnancy complications and poor development of the baby. An unhealthy diet may also negatively affect the placenta. The placenta is how the baby in the womb gets nutrients and oxygen from the mother. Exercise during pregnancy is beneficial for the function of the placenta and for fetal development.

No research as yet shows that eating more fruits and vegetables is bad for us. On the contrary, a study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology has estimated that if people ate up to 10 portions a day, there would be a 24% lower risk of heart disease, 33% lower risk of stroke, 28% lower risk of cardiovascular disease, 13% lower risk of cancer, and a 31% lower risk of dying early when compared to not eating any fruits or vegetables.

“Superbugs” refer to bacteria that are resistant to most antibiotics commonly used today. Antibiotic resistance can be slowed, but not stopped. Over time, bacteria adapt to the drugs designed to kill them, and change to ensure their survival.

You can, however, protect yourself from superbugs. Take care of your hygiene. For example, wash your hands often with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer. Ensure proper food handling. Adopt healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating a healthy, nutritious diet rich in a wide variety of wholesome plant foods, exercising regularly, and getting adequate rest to minimize the risk of illness.

Merely focusing on being healthy when you’re already sick is too little, too late. Keeping healthy doesn’t simply mean fighting off disease. You must keep healthy every day; keeping healthy gives your body the best foundation to prevent and fight off disease, whether you know you’re sick or not.
