Highlights from MUC 2025: Advancing Urology Care Together

Getz Healthcare Malaysia was proud to support the MUC 2025 Masterclass, featuring cutting-edge sessions on IRE ablation with The NanoKnife System and robotic prostate fusion biopsy.

Day 1 included expert lectures by Dato’ Dr Chit Sin Loh ( Hospital Picaso ) and Dr S. Sritharan (Island Hospital Penang), with moderation by Dr Sivaneswaran Lechmiannandan (Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh), plus a hands-on NanoKnife demonstration showcasing its role in focal therapy.

Day 2 brought vibrant conversations at our booth, exploring how advanced devices can enhance precision, safety, and patient outcomes. Thank you to all participants for your engagement and support. We look forward to driving innovation and collaboration in urology care!

🎉 Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s Vascular Surgery team has made history by successfully deploying the first smart polymer embolization plug in Southeast Asia, marking a proud milestone for Malaysia!🇲🇾

Developed by Shape Memory Medical, the IMPEDE embolization plug represents a new generation of embolization technology. At its core is an innovative shape memory polymer, a bioengineered material that expands upon contact with blood to fill the vessel lumen, promoting controlled and durable occlusion. Unlike traditional metallic coils or plugs, the device is designed to encourage natural tissue healing while minimizing the amount of permanent foreign material left in the body. This unique mechanism supports long term vessel closure, reduces imaging artifacts, and enhances patient safety and outcomes.

Special thanks to Dr. Karthigesu Aimanan, Dr. Putera Mas Pian, and Dr. Michael Arvind for making this milestone possible, and our heartfelt appreciation to Datuk Dr. Hanif Hussein for his visionary leadership and for welcoming new technology into the HKL Vascular Surgery Unit, allowing it to continue evolving and advancing patient care. A new milestone for Sunway Medical Centre, the hospital has successfully performed its first eXroid haemorrhoid treatment, led by Dr. Michael Pak-Kai WONG, Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon.

The eXroid® electrotherapy system is an innovative, non-surgical solution that uses a low-level electrical current to reduce blood flow to internal haemorrhoids, allowing them to shrink naturally over time. The treatment is quick, virtually painless, and allows patients to resume daily activities immediately, with no anaesthesia, cutting, or downtime.

This milestone reflects Dr Michael Wong and Sunway Medical Centre’s commitment to adopting advanced, patient-friendly technologies in bringing the next generation of haemorrhoid care to Malaysia.

A significant milestone at Sunway Medical Centre, The NanoKnife System is now available!

This technology uses Irreversible Electroporation
(IRE), a non-thermal focal therapy that destroys targeted prostate cancer cells while preserving surrounding vital structures such as urethra, nerves and blood vessels.

We are proud to announce that Dr. Christopher Lee of Sunway Medical Centre’s urology team has successfully performed the centre’s first NanoKnife procedure, supported by Dr. Guan Hee TAN. This milestone marks a significant step forward in advancing prostate cancer care, providing patients with a treatment that not only offers effective cancer control but also prioritises the preservation of quality of life.

We were honoured to be invited by Organizing Chairperson Dr. Zakhirati, to participate in the recent Sarawak Basic Interventional Radiology Workshop on August 9. It was a privilege to welcome YB Datuk Amar Dr. Kui Hian SIM, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Sarawak, to our booth, accompanied by Dr. Dhayal Balakrishnan, Head of the Radiology Department at Hospital Umum Sarawak and Dr Zakhirati.

The event provided an excellent platform to educate workshop participants on the groundbreaking thrombolysis system for thrombus management, as well as to showcase the latest advancements in ’s smart polymer-based embolization, another important step in our mission in bringing meaningful healthcare solutions to the people of Malaysia.
