Had the opportunity to attend the APAC Cardiometabolic Summit in KL, where conversations focused on obesity and its impact on cardiometabolic health.

I may not be the “typical” attendee as an Obs & Gynae — but women’s health doesn’t exist in silos. With more than half of Malaysian women living with overweight or obesity, it’s crucial for us in Obs & Gynae to understand and manage these risks across their life journey.

Also grateful for the workshop on communicating scientific data — a reminder of how important clear, evidence-based messaging is for our patients and communities.

🙋‍♀️SEMUA WANITA!

👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️Pakar perubatan menyarankan ujian saringan kanser pangkal rahim kepada semua wanita berusia antara 21 hingga 64 tahun, takpa mengira aktiviti seksual mereka. 🩻🏥

💃Usia 21 hingga 29
👉Ujian Pap setiap 3 tahun

💃Usia 30 hingga 65
👉Ujian Pap dan HPV (saringan bersama) setiap 5 tahun, atau
👉Ujian Pap sahaja setiap 3 tahun, atau
👉Ujian HPV sahaja setiap 5 tahun

🚨Perhatian!🚨

👯‍♀️Remaja dan wanita berusia bawah 21 tahun digalakkan untuk mendapatkan vaksinasi HPV, tanpa mengira tabiat seksual mereka 💉

👵Wanita berusia lebih 65 tahun boleh memilih untuk tidak mengadakan ujian saringan sekiranya:
👉Mereka tidak mempunyai sejarah sel pangkal rahim yang abnormal
👉Ujian Pap negatif 3 kali berturut-turut, ujian HPV negatif 2 kali berturut-turut, atau ujian bersama negatif 2 kali berturut-turut dalam tempoh 10 tahun

🤔Who should go for a cervical cancer screening?

🙋‍♀️ALL WOMEN!

👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️Medical experts recommend cervical cancer screening for all women between the ages of 21 and 64 years old, regardless of their sexual activities. 🩻🏥

💃Ages 21 to 29
👉A Pap test every 3 years

💃Ages 30 to 65
👉A Pap and an HPV test (co-testing) every 5 years, or
👉A Pap test alone every 3 years, or
👉An HPV alone every 5 years

🚨Attention!🚨

👯‍♀️Girls and women under the age of 21 are recommended to get HPV vaccination, even if they are not sexually active. 💉

👵Women above the age of 65 may skip cervical cancer screening if:
👉They do not have any history of moderate or severe abnormal cervical cells
👉They have had 3 negative Pap tests in a row, 2 negative HPV test results in a row, or 2 negative co-tests within 10 years.

🤰Kalori tambahan sepanjang kehamilan
✅Betul, tetapi hanya 300 kalori tambahan sahaja setiap hari semasa trimester akhir. Pilih makanan yang sihat seperti daging, sayuran hijau, buah berserat tinggi, tenusu dan lain-lain.

🤰Jumlah darah meningkat
✅Tubuh anda menghasilkan hingga 50% lebih banyak darah untuk menampung keperluan oksigen tambahan sepanjang kehamilan. Zat besi memainkan peranan!

🤰Kekalkan berat badan ideal
✅Berat badan yang ideal mengurangkan risiko semasa kehamilan dan kelahiran

🤰Bayi anda hanya seberat 3-4kg
✅Berat badan tambahan selebihnya adalah daripada lemak, protein, cecair amnion, darah, payudara dan cecair dalam badan lain. Oleh itu, makanlah secara sihat.

‼️Remember to eat healthily throughout your pregnancy.

🙋‍♀️Here’s why!

🤰Pregnancy requires more calories
✅True, but you only need 300 extra calories daily in your third trimester. So, get your extra calories by eating the right types of food - white meat, green vegetables, high-fibre fruits, dairy, and so on.

🤰Your blood volume increases
✅You’re making a whole new human in there! Your body will increase up to 50% of its blood supply to support the extra oxygen needed for a healthy pregnancy. Iron-rich food is key!

🤰Maintain a healthy gestational weight gain
✅Keep your weight and sugar in check to reduce risks during pregnancy and childbirth.

🤰Baby only weighs about 3-4 kg
✅The additional weight gain comes from fat, protein, amniotic fluid, blood, breasts, and other bodily fluids. So, eat for 2 healthily!
