what a privilege it is for me to be able to share this practice with you. wherever, whoever you may be, i wish you presence in your breath, strength in your stillness, and softness in your becoming.

this international yoga day, may we remember: yoga is not just movement or trend. it is remembrance. a returning to self, to silence, to the thread that connects us all. it is in the way we sit with discomfort, the way we breathe through chaos, the way we extend compassion, on and off the mat.

here’s to yoga not as something we do, but something we live. happy yoga day, today and every day. 🧘🏻‍♀️✨

yoga is a transformative practice that everyone can benefit from, whether as a standalone routine or to complement your other fitness modality. it goes beyond physical movement, offering a holistic approach to health that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.

physically, yoga enhances strength, flexibility, and balance, providing a foundation that complements any other form of exercise. whether you’re a runner, weightlifter, or cyclist, yoga can improve performance by increasing joint mobility, reducing the risk of injury, and aiding in recovery. the controlled, deliberate movements in yoga strengthen stabilizing muscles that are often overlooked in traditional workouts, promoting better posture and overall alignment.

mentally, yoga cultivates mindfulness and reduces stress. in today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to neglect mental well-being. yoga creates space for introspection and calm through breathwork and mindful practices. it helps regulate the nervous system, lowering cortisol levels and improving focus. these benefits can carry over into other aspects of life, boosting productivity and resilience.

yoga is also incredibly versatile and adaptable. regardless of age, fitness level, or lifestyle, there’s a style of yoga that fits everyone. gentle practices like yin yoga are perfect for recovery days, while dynamic practice such as power yoga challenges strength and stamina. this adaptability makes yoga accessible to beginners and advanced practitioners alike, providing endless opportunities for growth.

beyond its physical and mental benefits, yoga fosters a deeper connection to yourself and the world around you. its principles, such as good discipline, non-judgment, extend beyond the mat, encouraging compassion, patience, and gratitude in daily life. this transformative mindset can enhance not just your fitness routine, but your entire approach to well-being.

whether you’re looking to complement an intense fitness regimen or seeking a standalone practice to stay healthy and centered, yoga is a lifelong tool. its holistic benefits go far beyond the mat, helping you to become stronger, calmer, kinder, and more balanced self.

yoga is often misunderstood as a religion due to its historical associations with hinduism, buddhism, and jainism. however, it is not a religion but a universal practice focused on physical, mental, and spiritual growth, accessible to people of all beliefs or none.

dating back to the indus valley civilization (c. 3300–1900 ice), yoga predates most organized religions. originally, it was a method of meditation and self-discipline, unconnected to specific religious doctrines. ancient texts like the yoga sutras of patanjali describe yoga as a path to self-awareness and enlightenment through ethical living, breath control, and meditation. unlike religion, yoga is experiential, offering tools for personal transformation rather than requiring faith or worship.

yoga’s spiritual elements often lead to confusion. while spirituality and religion overlap, they are distinct.

spirituality involves personal exploration and connection, while religion entails organized beliefs and rituals.

yoga fosters mindfulness and unity without prescribing religious adherence. its integration into hindu, buddhist, and jain practices reflects its adaptability, not its religious origin.

today, modern yoga emphasize physical health, mental clarity, and emotional balance. the yoga we all practice today has evolved into a secular, scientifically supported practice that transcends cultural and religious boundaries. while chanting or sanskrit terms may appear religious, they are cultural traditions, not mandatory elements.

yoga’s inclusivity makes it compatible with diverse beliefs. people from all faiths—or none—can practice yoga without compromising their own values. it complements religious practices by fostering self-awareness, compassion, and mindfulness, but it is not tied to any doctrine.

in essence, yoga is a tool for self-discovery and growth, distinct from organized religion. it offers a practical, adaptable approach to achieving balance and well-being, benefiting practitioners from all walks of life. its universal nature allows it to transcend religious boundaries while remaining deeply personal.

did you know…

yoga is humanity’s earliest spiritual practice, originating in the indus valley civilization (c. 3300–1900 bce), predating major organized religions like judaism, zoroastrianism, & formalized hinduism.

initially, yoga is not tied to any single religion but focused on spiritual and philosophical exploration. over time, it was adopted into hinduism, buddhism, and jainism and integrated into their practices. while yoga shares spiritual elements with religion, it is fundamentally a practice aimed at personal growth and self-awareness. religion, on the other hand is an organized system of beliefs tied to cultural and doctrinal traditions. yoga can complement religious practice of the practitioner’s choice, however, it remains independent to any religious framework.

the yoga we practice today, termed “modern yoga,” blends ancient wisdom with contemporary techniques. it evolved into a versatile, scientifically supported practice that enhances physical, mental, & emotional well-being, offering a holistic path to mindfulness in today’s fast-paced world.

while definitive proof of yoga’s exact origins is elusive due to the prehistoric nature of evidence, it is widely accepted that yoga exists before all organized religions.

.my karma align academy yoga teacher graduates, class of 2024 👨🏾‍🎓👩🏻‍🎓

each batch of trainees brings different energies and challenges and this one was of no difference. i enjoy changing my methods from time to time and challenging my rbf game and heck mission accomplished!

this bunch who don’t know me definitely don’t know the tricks in my pockets but tbh, the transformation and growth from each teacher on a weekly basis is what kept me going, cracking my head on how to help each one individually.

as the emotions settled, i am reminded that i learn from my teachers - which is my students. and hence, i am forever grateful that our paths crossed, and hopefully i can continue to inspire all of you on this beautiful and sacred practice of, yoga.

from the bottom of my yogi toes, enjoy and embrace your teaching journey, i will always be around lurking if you need me 🔦🪷

thanks for capturing our moment again, 🙇🏻‍♀️🙏🏻

patience, waiting, is also a form of action.

patience is not just the ability to wait. it is to be calm no matter what happens, understanding that you will get there eventually, and the willingness to endure(enjoy) the moment.

so, be patient my friends.

it took me a while to talk about this bunch. one- to let the emotions settle in, but also two- to allow myself to reflect in my head the teachings in this ytt- have i taught them well, was it enough, can they take on the role independently now, will they be able to understand the teachings to impart onto others… etc.

in this training i understood a lot of what my teacher use to say- to be a trainer you have to be emotionally bt most importantly mentally strong for the trainees. while i enjoy every moment of it, i also kept challenging my ways of teaching every single moment in accordance to the group’s pace and energy. this group is such an inquisitive bunch, it taught me a lot on how to change my ways here and there.

when they have graduated, i thought to myself, ahhh, we gave them wings, hopefully they are strong and mighty wings that will last a long time and then it struck me— oh wait, it was not us. they grew the wings themselves. it is all them.

great teachers don’t just teach, but provoke, engage, transform and… inspire us to be better everyday. thank you class of 2023, you all taught me so much.
