As many nations including Malaysia face the ageing population, we must adopt a proactive attitude towards our own health.
Falls are one of the leading causes of injury for seniors, and the impact goes beyond physical harm. It affects their independence, confidence, and overall well-being.
When I saw that my mother was having problem (it takes her a long time to straighten her knees) to stand from a sitting position I quickly ensure that she does our program twice a week (thank god, she agrees!). My team and I are so blessed that she now sit-to-stand with ease. Her gait pattern has also improved tremendously. Previously she walks with trepidation now she walks confidently. When my family members first saw that she has knees problem, they thought she needed injection, surgery or other passive methods. I insisted that it was just muscular weakness in her quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes. And she simply just needs to move her knees well to ensure that her joints are well-lubricated.
With ABMUS, we focus on proactive care for seniors, emphasizing not just physical movement but also mental wellness. Prevention is key—by creating an environment that promotes balance, strength, and mental awareness, we can help seniors stay safe, active, and independent for longer.
What You Can Do:
1. Watch for daily movements e.g sit-to-stand, walking. Are there some challenges?
2. Begin with movements like seated knee extension and bridging exercises.
3. Work with a physiotherapist if there is pain.
Let’s prioritize fall prevention and empower our seniors to live with confidence and vitality.
