It has been used for centuries: it was created approximately 2.500 years ago, in India. The Founder of this type f massage was Shivaga Komarapaj (" Father Doctor Shivago"), a doctor and a friend of the Buddha. Chinese and Indian people strongly influenced therapies and treatments developed in Thailand. Over 75.000 energetic lines are present, but the massage focus only on 10 of them. Energy lines are known as SEN. Many points used in acupuncture are located in these lines. Several treatments for the body and for specific organs are based on the 10 SEN technique, as well as the cure of several kind of diseases. Most of the current Thai Massage knowledge has been handed down orally generation by generation. Many old medical writings were destroyed in 1776 by the Burmese, during the destruction of Ayutthaya (the old Siam capital) . In 1832, King Rama III, found the old plates with ancient writings on it and he ordered to put them into Wat Pho Temple in Bangkok to keep the knowledge for the future generations. The oldest Thai Massage school in Thailand is located in Wat Pho. Another important massage school is in Chiang Mai, In the northern Thailand (Lanna). Chiang Mai was the capital of the kingdom of Lanna (the kingdom of a million fields), which enjoyed a golden age throughout the 15th century. During this age the powerful inland kingdom came to control most of what now constitutes northern Thailand, north-western Laos, the eastern Shan states of Burma and Xishuangbanna in southern Yunnan. The religion of the kingdom -Theravada Buddhism - gave rise to a cultural wealth whose influence was to be felt beyond the kingdom's boundaries down the centuries.
