📢 Health Awareness Message: World Cancer Day (4 February)
World Cancer Day is an international day marked on 4 February to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, early detection, and treatment.
Cancer continues to be a major global public health challenge, affecting not only physical health but also placing significant emotional, psychosocial, and financial strain on individuals, families, and healthcare systems.
What you should know:
• Many cancers are influenced by lifestyle, environmental factors, and infections
• Early detection through regular screenings significantly improves treatment outcomes
• An estimated 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million cancer-related deaths were reported globally in 2022, with a disproportionate impact on low- and middle-income countries
• Between 30% and 50% of cancer deaths are preventable through risk-factor modification and early intervention
Everyday habits that support cancer prevention:
✅ Prioritise quality sleep (7–8 hours nightly)
✅ Eat a balanced diet and limit processed and red meats
✅ Stay physically active (aim for at least 150 minutes per week)
✅ Manage stress in healthy ways
✅ Go for regular health check-ups and recommended screenings
Cancer may slow life down, but it does not define it. Small, consistent health choices combined with accessible preventive care can make a meaningful difference in long-term health and quality of life.
