MDIA was established on 2 September 2015 and changed its name on 30 December 2019 from dental traders to dental industry, first to enlarge the scope of membership to include not only dental traders but also manufacturers and dental laboratories, second to cover both dental trade and consumer products. 1) To unite all members of the dental industry in a common endeavor to develop the dental industry in Malaysia for the benefit of the members.
2) To assist and uphold the member benefits and rights in terms of the industrial, business relationship, disputes, social economy, legal and regulatory matters.
3) To conduct and coordinate training and education for the dental industry.
4) To represent, communicate and collaborate with the relevant ministries and various associations on all matters related to the dental industry.
5) To organise conferences, seminars, workshops and trade exhibitions related to the dental industry and obtain the approval of CPD points from the relevant authorities.
6) To represent and promote Malaysia's dental industry and the association regionally and internationally.
7) To assist members to obtain funds and grants for business operation and expansion.
8) To provide and organise voluntary activities, charitable work and community welfare. MDIA started Malaysia International Dental Show (MIDS) on 23-25 September 2016, being the 7th edition in 2024, is the leading international show of its kind to be held in Malaysia and the region, this time organized by both the dental school of the university together with the trade association, namely MAHSA University and MDIA. Witness The Virtual Joint Announcement of the Malaysia-Singapore Medical Device Regulatory Reliance Programme
MDIA was invited to witness the signing of MoU in between MDA & HSA, Singapore on the above initiative. The CEO of Medical Device Authority (MDA), Malaysia said in his speech "This is an important step forward in regulatory convergence across ASEAN"
Such collaboration is timely and strategic especially at the global medical device landscape by facilitating efficient market access.

Message from Outgoing President during AGM on Thursday 26 June 2025
Dear Members, Fellow Committee Members, and Esteemed Guests,
As I step down from my role as President, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for the trust and support you have extended to me throughout my term. 🙏 It has truly been an honour to serve as President for two terms, from 2021–2023 and 2023–2025, and to work alongside such a passionate and dedicated team. 🤝✨
I would like to invite the outgoing committee to stand as a gesture of appreciation and to thank all our members for their unwavering support throughout our journey together. 👏
Let us remember how we started this association back in 2015 with our co-founding team, including our two co-founders — our late Mr. Ding Sing Leong, who was our President for three terms (2015–2017, 2017–2019, 2019–2021), appointed as Honourary Life President and Mr. Gary Tong, who served as our Protem Secretary General before I assumed the role when the association is officially formed. I joined during the Protem committee stage with the recommendation of one of the Protem committee members. Together, we have achieved many milestones, weathered challenges, and laid a strong foundation for future growth. 🏛️🌟
We have devoted much of our time building the Malaysia International Dental Show (MIDS), edition 8th now, into the prominent event it is today. During my last term, we also prioritised more members' networking activities, including members’ networking and appreciation dinner, movie screening, and bowling competition. 🎥🎳🍽️ I sincerely hope the new Board of Committee will continue and expand these initiatives for the benefit of all members.
I am especially proud of the collaborative spirit that has carried us through the years, and I believe we have built a stronger, more resilient organisation. 💪
Today, I am pleased to pass the baton to the new committee. I have full confidence in their leadership, vision, and capability to lead our association to even greater heights. 📈 To our new President, Jeffrey Teh, and the incoming committee — congratulations on your appointment! 🎉 You have my full support and best wishes as you begin this new chapter.

MDA will take actions on companies selling medical device without licence via online & e-commerce platforms. This is a serious offence under the Act 737.
Section 5(1) of Medical Device Act 2012 (Act 737) requires a medical device to be
registered under the Act before it can be imported, exported or placed in the market. For that purpose, an application for the registration of a medical device must be made
according to the requirement under Act 737 and in the manner determined by the
Authority in Medical Device Regulation 2012.
Starting from 1 July 2013 when Act 737 comes into effect, all medical devices to
be placed in Malaysian market are required to be registered under the Act. The
application for medical device registration shall be made to the Authority through an
online, web-based system called ―Medical Device Centralized Online Application System
(MeDC@St)‖.
