In 1955, when Kuantan was made the state capital, a new site was chosen for the school in Jalan Beserah. A site near Jalan Beserah, Lot No.4604, with the area of 10 acres (40,000 m2), 1 rood, 28 poles (452,750 feets per) was identified suitable as the new site for the school. Construction was started in the year 1956. The school was officially opened on Aug 16, 1957 by the then Sultan of Pahang, Al-Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Riayathuddin Al Muadzam Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Abdullah Al Muktasim Billah, and Mr. Payet Paprik.[1] Datuk Idris bin Babjee, KMN, PMP, PJK, was signed as the first principal of Sultan Abu Bakar School. Involvement in SJAM
In 1996, SMK Sultan Abu Bakar has joined and registered as a division of St. John Ambulans Malaysia Pahang and started its dedicated career for the service of mankind, under the sub-governance of the East Pahang Area. In addition, installed due to the 2012 cluster school project, codenamed E.A.G.L.E, the St. John Room within the school compound is one of the Area Headquarters Operation Room of SJAM Pahang. SJAM SABS has a long-term programme, which is the "One Home One First Aider" Programme, aimed to achieve the target of 100% of student of SMK Sultan Bakar, to have at least the basic knowledge of First Aid. The E.A.G.L.E Project
(Efficient Aid of Generating Leaders towards Excellence)
E.A.G.L.E. Project --- the brainchild of Mr. Ryan Chong, is an uplift of the standard of excellence in the knowledge and skills of First Aid and Home Nursing. The acronym E.A.G.L.E. stands for Efficient Aid in Generating Leaders towards Excellence. With this in mind, it is the division’s top priority to embrace the importance of First Aid in saving life and Home Nursing in promoting recovery and intrinsically, it has also become a part of the essential qualities of every SJAM Pahang SABS division member. The project also encourages new ideas and activities, efficient organisation and administration, and effective passing-on of knowledge and skills, which also helps in the uplift of standard. Thus, the discipline of the project specialises in teachings of soft skills which includes communication and presentation skills, self-discipline etc. but to a large extent, leadership skill. Initially, the St. John Room is used as an operation, meeting & training room. It is also used to store first aid equipment such as first aid kits, all sorts of bandages, dressings, saline, cervical collars, spinal boards, CPR manikins etc. There are also nursing equipment for home nursing trainings. Since the establishment of E.A.G.L.E Project, members of SJAM Pahang SABS division have more hands-on practical and they have better equipment for training. Most important of all, the E.A.G.L.E. Project has taught members to set a goal to achieve excellence not just in St. John Ambulance but also in life in general.
