🌿Sustainability Program Day 2025 Launching @ SGH's DCC Courtyard, 27 Aug 2025

“𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲, 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗶𝗿: 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹, 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.”

The program focused on raising awareness of sustainable practices within the hospital community, with particular emphasis on energy efficiency, waste reduction, and clean air initiatives.

Various interactive activities and competitions were conducted to engage hospital departments and encourage practical adoption of green practices.

The event was organized by the SGH Sustainability Program Committee with the collaboration of Weida IFM Sdn Bhd, One Medicare Sdn Bhd, Asaljuru Weida Sdn Bhd, and Meditel. The initiative reflects SGH’s continuous commitment to aligning with the Ministry of Health’s environmental and energy sustainability goals.

🚬Smoking involves inhaling harmful chemicals from burning to***co, while va**ng uses electronic devices to inhale vaporized chemicals, often including ni****ne and flavorings. Both practices can severely impact human health—including the immune system.

🛑E-Cigarette Contents
E-cigarettes contain flavorings, solvents (like propylene glycol), and addictive substances like ni****ne or THC. These are heated and inhaled, delivering chemicals deep into the lungs.

🛑Harmful Chemicals in To***co Smoke
To***co smoke contains over 4,000 harmful chemicals, including known carcinogens like benzene, formaldehyde, and carbon monoxide. These substances are toxic to human health.

🛑Ni****ne's Impact on Immunity
Ni****ne suppresses the immune system by affecting immune cells such as macrophages and T and B lymphocytes. It weakens antimicrobial defenses and increases inflammation, making the body more vulnerable to infections and autoimmune diseases.

🛑Vape and To***co Smoke Effects on Immunity

⚫Short-term exposure to v**e reduces the immune response to bacterial infections.
⚫Long-term exposure increases inflammation and reduces the ability to fight infections like MRSA and influenza.
⚫Vape exposure affects lung cells and causes oxidative stress.
⚫Va**ng mice showed worse immune response and higher mortality from viral infections compared to non-exposed ones.

🛑Natural Killer (NK) Cells and Smoking
Smoking reduces the number and effectiveness of NK cells—key players in fighting viruses and tumors. Smokers and former smokers show significantly fewer NK cells, which may contribute to cancer development, especially lung cancer.

🛑Respiratory Consequences

In a medical situation, knowing where to go can make all the difference.

Whether it’s a sudden high fever or something more serious like chest pain, choosing the right place for care can save lives—and time.

⛑️ 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 (𝐄𝐑)
Head to the ER if you're experiencing life-threatening symptoms such as:
* Chest pain or pressure
* Difficulty breathing
* Stroke symptoms (sudden numbness, confusion, trouble speaking)
* Severe injuries or bleeding
* Loss of consciousness
