The Clinical Research Centre at Sarawak General Hospital (CRC SGH) is the third CRC established by the Ministry of Health (MOH) as part of the 36 hospital CRCs under the Institute of Clinical Research (ICR). It was established is 2003 and its first Head of Unit was Dr Kui-Hian SIM. While it is aligned with the greater vision and mission of the ICR, it also aims to foster closer clinical research and cooperation in Malaysia by providing assistance in research proposals and writing, research funding and grant applications. CRC-SGH organizes training workshops in biostatistics and research methodology, Good Clinical Practice certification courses and assists in presentations at local and international scientific meetings. Following the increase in international multicenter clinical trials, especially in the fields of cardiovascular disease and oncology, CRC SGH improved its facilities and support services to cater for early phase clinical trials. CRC SGH is now located in a purpose-built one stop clinical trials facility located over three levels of the new CRC building located at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) to cover clinical, laboratory, administrative and archiving services for clinical research. SGH is a 1000-bedded tertiary referral centre of the Ministry of Health for Sarawak, Malaysia. Our CRC SGH (research) laboratory, located within the CRC building, is MS ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 and MS ISO 15189: 2014 accredited for pharmaceutical and medical testing activities; respectively. The CRC SGH (research) ward obtained provisional licence from National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) to conduct early phase clinical trials. CRC SGH also has a satellite site with a research ward and molecular biology laboratory at Sarawak Heart Center (SHC) to cater for bioavailability/ bioequivalence (BABE) activities and molecular testing activities for clinical trials.
