HEALTHY HEART NUTRITION #6:REDUCE YOUR RISK - Today I want to shift gears and talk about how you can Reduce Your Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Diseases including heart attack, stroke, and high blood pressure. Increased body fat especially abdominal fat around the intestines detected with an increased waist circumference contributes to inflammation and atherosclerosis (see slide). A waist size greater than 42 inches in a man or 35 inches in a woman increases your risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Smoking causes oxidation and inflammation and restricts blood flow to the heart. Lack of exercise leads to a loss of muscle as you age with an increase in body fat as does a lack of protein. You need the right amount of protein at every meal and after exercise to maintain your muscles including your heart muscle. Stop smoking, eat a Heart Healthy Diet with colorful fruits and vegetables, fiber, fish or fish oil supplements, and plant proteins including soy to keep your heart healthy with Balanced Nutrition and a Healthy Active Lifestyle!!!
