SGH RECEIVES MEDICAL EQUIPMENT DONATION

KUCHING, Wed: - Sarawak General Hospital received a generous donation of medical equipment from the Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The contribution consist of an ultrasound machine, video laryngoscope, portable bronchoscope, ICU monitor, patient monitor, infusion pump and syringe pump – aimed to support the newly established Medical Critical Care Unit (MCCU), which was designed to provide enhanced monitoring and specialized care for critically ill patients.

According to Eugene Chua, the Church Humanitarian Manager, the church collaborated closely with Dr. Rachel Chin, founder consultant of MCCU and her team to identify critical equipment for the MCCU. When the unit launched in February 2025, it operated at a limited capacity due to equipment constraints. With the donation contribution from the church, MCCU has now expanded from 8 to 12 beds, benefiting approximately 800 patients over the past year.

“Beyond simply donating, we aim to create an ecosystem that ensures the benefits of this contribution continue for many years”. A key consideration in this donation was long term sustainability, as our church believes in doing good responsibly, he added.

Dr Ngian, Director of Sarawak General Hospital expressed her sincere appreciation for the generous contribution, noting that the equipment will greatly assist healthcare personnel in delivering efficient and effective treatment to patient.

“This meaningful contribution will further strengthen our capacity to provide better healthcare services and we are grateful for the support and generosity extended to the hospital “, she said

The church has previously partner with Sarawak General Hospital on humanitarian initiatives in 2023 and 2024, highlighting a shared commitment to improving healthcare outcomes across Sarawak. -END-

KUCHING: Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia Datuk Seri Haji Hasnol Zam Zam bin Haji Ahmad telah mengadakan lawatan kerja ke Hospital Umum Sarawak dalam rangka lawatan kerja beliau ke Kuching.

Beliau telah disambut oleh Dr. Ngian Hie Ung, Pengarah Hospital Umum Sarawak yang seterusnya memberi taklimat berhubung operasi hospital termasuk kapasiti perkhidmatan, cabaran semasa serta usaha mempertingkatkan kualiti rawatan kepada pesakit.

Terdahulu, beliau telah melawat Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sarawak dan menghadiri mesyuarat khas serta taklimat Pembangunan Negeri Sarawak bersama YAB Perdana Menteri di Komplek Satria Pertiwi

Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) & Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)

In recent years, colorectal surgeons all over have gained significant milestones in pushing for better survival rates in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer via more aggressive surgical approaches. In Sarawak General Hospital, the Colorectal Surgery Unit continues to explore & push the limits of surgical expertise in giving additional survival benefits to patients with locally advanced and metastatic colorectal cancer.

CRS-HIPEC is a procedure offered to patients diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer, with peritoneal metastasis only. It requires an extensive surgical resection of cancer in the abdomen, followed by intra-operative instillation of warmed chemotherapy drugs into the abdominal cavity. Of date, only a handful of public hospitals in Malaysia offers this service.

On 12 Feb 2026, Colorectal Unit led & hosted a multidisciplinary team to perform the first CRS-HIPEC Procedure in Sarawak General Hospital, giving hope for a middle aged lady to survive & beat stage 4 colon cancer.

The fight on advanced cancer requires a strong multidisciplinary team from many different institutions across the country, collaborating and operating together as a strong group to achieve good results.

The multidisciplinary team consist of consultants and specialist from various specialties & institutions.

Hospital Umum Sarawak telah menganjurkan Majlis Apresiasi Hospital Umum Sarawak bagi Tahun 2025 yang berlangsung pada 7 Februari 2026 di Imperial Hotel Kuching. Majlis ini adalah bertujuan meraikan kecemerlangan warga HUS sepanjang Tahun 2025 melalui pelbagai Anugerah Kualiti, Keselamatan dan Kesihatan serta Penghargaan daripada Orang Awam, selain meraikan Pesara yang telah menjadi tulang belakang organisasi selama bertahun-tahun.

Majlis ini turut dimeriahkan dengan Kuching Angels Region Celebration iaitu pengiktirafan antarabangsa terhadap kesiapsiagaan komuniti, EMS dan hospital dalam rawatan strok pantas.
HUS dan BMC telah menerima World Stroke Organization (WSO) Angels Award: Gold Status, manakala PHCS HUS telah menerima Anugerah Diamond Status, dan program kesedaran FAST Heroes berjaya mendidik 1,530 kanak-kanak di 6 sekolah. Ini membuktikan bahawa apabila hospital, petugas kecemasan, sekolah dan komuniti bersatu, kita mampu menyelamatkan lebih banyak nyawa.
