Heart arrhythmia is an abnormal heartbeat — it can be too fast, too slow, or irregular — caused by abnormal electrical activity in the heart. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked.Many people worry about heart artery blockages, but arrhythmias are frequently neglected. In reality, heart arrhythmias can cause significant symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, fainting, and sometimes serious complications. Sadly, these symptoms are often mistaken as anxiety, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment.Awareness is key.Thank you Connie Grace for reporting and producing a series of arrhythmia education videos to help raise awareness in our community about recognising and diagnosing heart arrhythmias early.

Before & after angioplasty with DEB — “leave nothing behind.”🫀

Another 50-year-old lady came for a routine heart assessment despite having no symptoms. We discovered a severe blockage in one of her coronary arteries.

Many patients are understandably concerned about having too many stents placed in their heart arteries. Today, in selected cases, we can perform angioplasty without implanting a stent.

In this patient, the procedure was successfully completed using a drug-eluting balloon (DEB) alone — no stent required.

A DEB delivers medication directly to the vessel wall to reduce the risk of restenosis and slow the progression of atherosclerosis at the treated segment, while keeping the artery free of a permanent implant.

Of course, stents are still essential in many situations, but it’s encouraging that we now have more tailored options to suit different patients and lesion types.

一位 50 岁的女士在没有任何症状的情况下，前来进行常规心脏检查，我们发现她其中一条冠状动脉存在严重狭窄。

许多患者都会担心在心脏血管内放置过多支架。如今，在合适的病例中，我们可以进行不植入支架的血管成形术。

这位患者的治疗非常成功，仅使用了**药物涂层球囊（DEB）**完成扩张，无需放置支架。

DEB 的原理是将药物直接输送到血管壁，帮助减少再狭窄的风险，并减缓该部位动脉粥样硬化的进展，同时避免留下永久性的金属植入物。

当然，支架在许多情况下仍然非常重要，但令人欣慰的是，我们现在拥有更多个性化的治疗选择，可以根据不同患者和病变特点制定最合适的方案。
