My Autumn’25 Journey 15 Sept’25Why am I so passionate about what I do & the Brand I associate with & it’s exquisite invention, the Lampe Hygienic Berger. The Maison Berger History Invention of the Catalyst.The context of the time:In the 19th Century, Cholera was spreading in Paris. From the end of the 19th Century till the early 20th Century, the lack of hygiene & the over population in the capital encouraged the spread of tuberculosis. France had a very high mortality rate at this time. Passionate about medical research, notably in the field of bacteriology, Maurice Berger wanted to create a simple system to disinfect the air. Inspired by 2 scientists, Justus van Liebig & Charles Gerhardt, who discovered the technique of Catalytic Combustion & by Louis Muller ( the creator of the 1st Hygienic Lamp), Maurice Berger merged both discoveries & invented the Lampe Hygienic Berger. Initially designed to disinfect hospitals and public buildings, the concept was extended to domestic use in homes.Maurice Berger filed the very first patent of invention for his Lampe Hygienic Berger on June 16th 1898.
