No one knows this, but 6 months ago I had a stroke 🧠
It was one of the most unexpected things that could have ever happened to me at the age of 31 but here is my story 🙏
In early 2022, I started getting these unexplainable migraines constantly which I couldn't seem to get rid of.
They were being triggered by my phone and it would result in this weird buzzing/tingling sensation in my head as well as brain fog that would last hours on end.
I went to every doctor you could imagine, got countless MRI scans, but no one could find anything. This went on for almost 3 years.
Until one day in late 2024... I noticed things started to get way worse.
It wasn't just tingling in my head and brain fog anymore. It was now a feeling of nausea, sharp pain in my head and also lightheadedness. Constantly.
While yes.. I have always somewhat of a hypochondriac, however this time I knew something was wrong.
I went to the doctor to try and get a referral and they said I don't need another MRI scan. I insisted and almost had to beg them and after countless explanations why I needed another one, they finally agreed and gave me a referral.
I went straight to the radiology in Hornsby that afternoon, and I remember sitting in the waiting room getting changed and taking off all my jewellery and clearing my pockets preparing for the scan.
The radiologist walked in and said "Hey buddy, I just want you to know that there's really no need to do this scan. You're young, fit and healthy and you've had scans before and nothing showed up. Are you sure you want to proceed?"
I earnestly said yes, and after what felt like 30 minutes trying to persuade this man to let me do the scan that I had already paid for out of my own pocket, he said ok.
I hopped in the freezing tube and waited 20 minutes for the MRI scan to be done.
The sound of clicking, clunking and various mechanical noises filled my ears and I prayed to God that my scan would come back with a normal result.
The next day, I had an appointment with a functional medicine doctor I was seeing who was based in Brisbane. The consult was over Zoom and the first thing he asked me was "How have you been?"
I replied with "I've been pretty sick recently, but I think it's all in my head. I mean, I've always known I have a bit of a health anxiety so yeah, I think I'm completely fine."
He paused for a few seconds, stared at me with a blank face and replied "Are you sure?"
I was confused.
"Why was he asking me if I was sure?", I thought to myself.
I had seen hundreds of people online talk about how they've thought they had some serious illness but it ended up being nothing.
But why was he asking me this?
I was baffled.
After 3 billion worst case scenarios went through my head in the space of 5 seconds, he opened his mouth to speak.
"I don't know how to tell you this but.." said the doctor.
"Jamie, you've just had a stroke."
My life literally flashed before my eyes.
What does he mean I had a stroke?
I was 31 years old and ...
aren't you supposed to feel something if you have a stroke?
I literally thought I was in a bad dream.
Nothing made sense.
I was immediately rushed to hospital for testing and was put on a concoction of drugs.
The doctors were just as confused as I was.
They kept saying "You're too young to have just had a stroke."
But why did this happen?
After multiple tests and even retests, the doctors had no idea what was going on.
They told me that I presented with no symptoms of just having had a stroke, and the only explanation for it happening was from a heart arrhythmia issue.
I was discharged and started my journey of the specialist merry go round.
I went to a cardiologist, a neurologist, an ENT specialist... the list goes on.
I remember the neurologist doing a bunch of tests on me and looking at me saying "I'm honestly very confused."
So was I.
I moved back home with my mum who was incredibly worried about me.
All my symptoms got even worse and I was bed ridden for weeks.
I put on almost 10kg, stopped working, training & going out of the house and my entire life plummeted.
After a long 3 months of trying to literally just survive, my health started to improve back to somewhat "normal function."
I was on medication and a bunch of supplements, the apparent recurrence of a stroke risk was gone, but these migraines, head pain and symptoms still persisted.
I tried even more doctors, IV Vitamin C, grounding, hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy, a heavy metal detox, a mould detox, 10,000 supplements but nothing seemed to fix this pain.
Until one day... something completely unexpected happened that changed my life.
I was at a weekly Bible study group down the road from my place.
We had been studying the book of Acts, and after everyone was done eating, studying, worshipping and in fellowship, I asked some of the brothers to pray for me.
I'll be honest, I didn't even ask them to pray for my health, I actually asked them to pray for some other stuff I was going through.
A group of 3 brothers gathered around me, and began to pray.
I started twitching and could feel this fire go through my body - I couldn't explain the feeling.
After a few minutes, I said thank you and went home.
The next day as I was going about my life, I noticed that it was the first day in ages I had not had any headaches.
"That's strange", I thought.
But it must have been a fluke.
To cut a very long story short, it has now been almost 3 months since that prayer and I have not had a single headache.
I can't explain it, but only God knows how.
And before you guys assume I'm trying to turn this story into "religious propaganda", I'm not. All I'm sharing is the 100% truth of what happened to me.
After almost 4 years of constant migraines, I was healed in an instant.
And to top it off?
I went to get a follow up MRI scan a few weeks ago to see if the stroke had gotten worse...
And the neurologist told me it had completely disappeared.
Now.. what's the lesson I've learned through all of this you may ask?
I've learned that we will all be tested through different seasons of our lives, but what must remain is our faith in something greater than ourselves..
But what got me through this with an unshakable peace despite my dire circumstances was my trust in the Lord how He will bring me through the storm.
If you are someone or know someone going through a tough health complication, just know that in our lifetimes we will be put through many different challenges, but all we can do in these moments is have trust that God's plan is greater than ours, and that if I can be healed in an instant so can you ❤️
