Light up the JOY of health in our child 👶🏻👧🏻👦🏻 This page is created for me to share some childhood related issues as I encounter them in my daily practice as a Pediatrician, as well as a mother myself. I have a great passion in advocating BREASTFEEDING due to the incredible benefits that breastfeeding provides to both mother and child. As a mother of five children who managed to breastfed all of them, I recognizes the significant barriers to access and challenges that some communities face when it comes to breast milk feeding. Many mothers are expected to just "know how to do it", but the truth is – although breastfeeding is a natural process, it needs to be LEARNT and SUPPORTED. Dear beloved parents. I have ended my service as (full-time) resident Paediatrician at OMSMC officially on 28/2/2025. The hospital has been my second home for the past 10 years. I’m still attached to OMSMC as “VISITING CONSULTANT” with admission rights.

Many of you are excited (and so do I) to visit me at Joykids Child Specialist Clinic . I’ll take a short break in March 2025. It’s a paradigm shift in my career and I need time to recharge, reset and start anew. Behind close doors, we are working hard to prepare ourself to serve you very soon. Stay tune.

Sorry for the inconvenience during this period as I can’t see your child. Will announce when the day when I can open door to serve you.

Dr, your clinic got influenza vaccine stock or not? Clinic and hospital lines have become HOTLINES.

Parents have been frantically looking for the influenza vaccine since last week. You probably have called few clinics and disappointed being told that they are NIL in stock.

Basic info regarding influenza vaccine:
- it can be given to babies as young as 6 months old.
- It can be given simultaneously with rotavirus and pneumococcal vaccine if due
- < 9 years old receiving this vaccine for the first time will need a booster dose 4 weeks apart
- It has to be given ANNUALLY (annual booster)
- most brands now cover both influenza A & B
- it takes about 2 WEEKS for the flu shots to take effect (if you plan for an oversea trip)

Another FAQ from parents - need to give until what age? If possible, LIFELONG, as older child and adults also can get serious infection if not immunised.

✋🏻, don’t be angry if you see this, I didn’t hoard the stock for my family. This post was dated late December 2024. I make it a point to give them their painful “Christmas gift” every end of the year (have to be cruel to be kind 😉) before the start of their new school term.

A suggestion for you to remember it is by giving them around their birthday, just like us having to renew our driving licence. This is to avoid sudden shortages after the community is being scared by outbreaks/ deaths.
