Dr Sim is a Consultant Urologist with expertise in Endourology, Laparoscopic and Robotic surgery. He graduated with honours in 2005 from University College Dublin, Ireland. He subsequently completed his Urology Specialist training in Singapore General Hospital. There, he was awarded a SingHealth fellowship to further advance his skills in minimally invasive surgery at the Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen (Germany). Dr Sim treats both benign and malignant urinary tract diseases, which include BPH, Urinary Stones, Urinary Tract Cancer (Kidney, Bladder, Prostate) and Urinary Dysfunction. He has focused on acquiring advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques to treat these conditions as it results in better patient outcomes and recovery. Dr Sim has pioneered supine PCNL, ECRIS, Video Endoscopic Lymphadenectomy (VEIL) and zero-ischaemic partial nephrectomy with super-selective clamping. Dr Sim has been invited to be speaker and trainer at international and regional conferences. He has published extensively in peer review journals. Prior to returning to Malaysia, Dr Sim was Director of Endourology and Fellowship at Singapore General Hospital. He has won numerous service awards for his excellence in patient care.

⭐ Online Reviews in Medicine – Helpful, But Not the Whole Story

I came across this interesting article discussing the realities behind online ratings for doctors.

Patient reviews have undeniably improved transparency in healthcare. They allow patients to share their experiences and help others feel more informed when choosing a doctor.

However, medicine is complex.

A star rating often reflects the patient’s overall experience—waiting time, communication, clinic environment, or expectations—rather than purely the clinical judgment, surgical skill, or complexity of the case.

In specialties like urology and surgery, outcomes are influenced by many factors:
• The severity of disease
• Individual patient biology
• Complexity of the procedure
• Long-term follow-up and recovery

These nuances cannot always be captured in a simple 5-star system.

That said, feedback from patients is still incredibly valuable. It helps doctors and clinics continuously improve the patient journey, communication, and service quality.

For me personally, the most meaningful feedback is when patients say:

“I felt heard, understood, and cared for.”

Medicine ultimately remains a human relationship built on trust—something no rating system can fully measure.

For years, I’ve treated many patients who travelled all the way from Segamat to seek the best possible care. Long journeys, time off work, families making sacrifices — all in the hope of better outcomes.

Today, for the first time, I travelled to Segamat myself for the Grand Launch of Sena Specialist hospital Segamat — the first and only private specialist hospital here.

Standing here, I truly appreciate the effort my patients have made all these years.

Care should move closer to patients — not the other way around.

Bladder leaks in men are common — but they are NOT something you should ignore.

Many men assume urinary leakage is just part of ageing, something to “live with”. That’s simply not true.

Bladder leaks can be a sign of:

A FIRST FOR HINOTORI OUTSIDE JAPAN — ROBOTIC RIGHT RADICAL NEPHRECTOMY WITH IVC THROMBECTOMY

Today marks a significant milestone in our robotic oncology journey.

We completed the first Hinotori robotic IVC thrombectomy performed outside Japan, together with a right radical nephrectomy for a renal tumour extending into the vena cava.

This is a complex operation traditionally managed with large open incisions and significant physiological burden. Delivering it robotically — and safely — reflects how far the technology and our surgical ecosystem have evolved.

For our team, this wasn’t just about completing a difficult case.

For over two years, this gentleman lived with a catheter — unable to pass urine, told by many that surgery was too risky and his condition beyond repair.

But today, through robotic simple prostatectomy, we safely removed this 200-gram giant prostate and gave him back what he thought he had lost forever — the simple, human joy of normal life.
