Happy World Down Syndrome Day 2025!

Everyone needs support sometimes, this includes people with Down Syndrome and their families. They need a healthy support system which includes
i) Governance
ii) Social protection
iii) Human support
iv) Information & Data
v) Assistive technology
vi) Access to transportation & housing

Support systems are important so that they can enjoy their rights such as living in the community, be included in education or work, and getting good healthcare.

Occupational therapy also play important role in supporting individuals with Down Syndrome.
Occupational therapist help in developing and improving their ability to participate in everyday activities by addressing their fine motor skills, gross motor skills, sensory processing, and self-care abilities, ultimately aiming to increase independence. We work closely with the individual, their family, and other healthcare professionals. In conjunction with the World Down Syndrome Day, we are calling for all governments to improve our support system.

Sistem sokongan amat penting supaya mereka dapat menikmati hak-hak mereka seperti penglibatan dalam komuniti, pendidikan & pekerjaan serta mendapatkan penjagaan kesihatan yang baik.

Terapi cara kerja juga memainkan peranan penting dalam menyokong individu dengan Sindrom Down.
Terapis cara kerja membantu dalam membentuk dan meningkatkan kebolehan mereka untuk melibatkan diri dalam aktiviti harian dengan mengambil kira kebolehan mereka dalam kemahiran motor halus, motor kasar, pemprosesan sensori, dan penjagaan diri. Kami bekerja rapat dengan individu tersebut, keluarga mereka dan professional kesihatan yang lain. Oleh itu, sempena Hari Sindrom Down Sedunia, kami menyeru kepada semua untuk meningkatkan sistem sokongan kita.

OT in geriatric helps individuals facing physical, cognitive and/or emotional challenges associated with older age by using personalized treatment plans enabling them to engage in meaningful activities thus improving their quality of life and mental health.

OT ialah singkatan kepada Terapi Cara Kerja atau Terapis Cara Kerja (‘Occupational Therapy’/Occupational Therapist).

OT dalam pediatrik merupakan pakar dalam membantu kanak-kanak yang menghadapi cabaran fizikal, perkembangan, sensori, dan/atau kognitif untuk meningkatkan penyertaan, pencapaian serta keberdikarian mereka dalam kehidupan harian.
