Dr Rabindran Gandhi is a consultant Obstetrician , Gynecologist and Laparoscopic surgeon with interest in Infertility. He graduated from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore (MAHE), India in 1997. He obtained his Masters Degree in 2010 from University Science of Malaysia in 2010. He was trained in Laparoscopic surgery in Cochin , India ( Certificate in Laparoscopy) under Dr Hafeez Rahman.

Nausea and Vomitting in Pregnancy.

Many mothers experience some amount of nausea and vomitting in their 1st trimester of pregnancy. It becomes more after week 7-8. It is due to the elevated B HCG hormones. Some cannot tolerate certain smells too.

Mothers can take small, frequent amounts of water, juice or cordial drinks like Ribena. They can take fruits, biscuits and buns.Jellies and yougurt may help.

In severe cases they might need Iv drips, Iv medications to reduce their vomitting and may need hospital admission.

These symptoms almost always reduce after week 12-14 .

Weight gain in pregnancy

It all depends on the patients pre pregnancy weight . Normal weight gain would be around 10-15kg

Most of this weight gain will be after the first trimester. Some ladies will lose weight during the first trimester due to their morning sickness.

The weight gain is due to water retention,
Babies weight, weight of placenta , amniotic fluid and increase size of uterus .

Exercise like walking helps keep patients weight incheck.

Increase weight gain gives rise to Diabetes, Hypertension and big baby.
