Memorandum of Understanding Signed Between USM and PMG Healthcare Sdn Bhd
We are pleased to announce that Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), represented by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPSF), and PMG Healthcare Sdn Bhd have formalised a strategic collaboration via a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 15 December 2025 at the Conference Room, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, USM. The MOU was signed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurzalina Abdul Karim Khan, the Dean of PPSF, and Mr. Hwang Chiong Ann, Deputy Managing Director of PMG Healthcare, with the ceremony witnessed by the Deputy Deans and Discipline Chairpersons, and PMG representatives including Ms. Lee Shao Ching (Group Chief Human Resources Officer), Mr. Ling Hung Leong (Chief Pharmacist), Ms. Nur Sathirah Anujma (Human Resources Business Partner), and Ms. Florance Anak Augustine Usit (Human Resources Business Partner).

The collaboration will explore opportunities for the exchange of students and/or staff for learning, research and training; joint academic programmes, joint workshops and training programmes; joint research and development initiatives; the exchange of publications and dissemination of research outputs; and the formation of additional mutually identified linkages and cooperative activities.

It is anticipated that the partnership will enhance educational programmes and hands-on opportunities for students in pharmaceutical sciences, strengthen industry–academia collaborations to accelerate innovation, and broaden access to resources, expertise, and networks for both organisations.

We look forward to a fruitful partnership that advances education, research and healthcare solutions for the communities we serve.

Greetings everyone!

We are delighted to welcome Mr. Andrew Tan Eng Joo to our FEL274 (Health Promotion Pharmacy) Professional Lecture Series!

Mr. Andrew Tan is a distinguished pharmacist, entrepreneur, and influential leader in Malaysia’s pharmacy profession. A proud graduate of USM (B.Pharm Hons) and RMIT Melbourne (MBA – International Management), he has dedicated more than 28 years to advancing pharmacy practice, healthcare governance, and professional excellence. He currently serves as:

✔ Vice President, Malaysian Professional Centre (BIM)
✔ Council Member, Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS)
✔ Technical Committee Member, National Medicines Policy (DUNas)
✔ Committee Member, Pharmacy Board Technical Inquiry
✔ Member, Poison Board Malaysia (2022 – 2025)

And he has played pivotal roles in shaping national guidelines such as the Community Pharmacy Benchmarking Guideline and the Code of Ethics for Pharmacists (2018). Mr. Andrew is also a successful entrepreneur. In 2016, he founded MD Pharma Sdn Bhd, a fast-growing pharmaceutical company known for its commitment to quality, safety, and efficacy.

In this session, he will share his inspiring journey in the talk: “Beyond the Pharmacy Counter: My Journey as an Entrepreneur Pharmacist”

✨ **Health Promotion Event by Year 1 Pharmacy Students!** ✨

7 December 2025 - Year 1 students from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences successfully conducted a Health Promotion Program in conjunction with the MASS CPR-AED 2025 event at Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra USM. This initiative is part of USM SULAM (Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society) and was carried out in collaboration with Pusat Sejahtera USM.

The event was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amirah binti Mohd Gazzali, Dr. Siti Sarah binti Fazalul Rahiman (PPSF), and Ms. Ng Sui Yee, and Dr. Noor Syazwani binti Ahmad Ramdan (Pusat Sejahtera).

🩺 Students showcased 10 health-related topics—including diabetes, cancer, to***co use, and more—through creative models and props, and interactive activities. The response from the public was overwhelming, with more than 1,800 visitors engaging with the booths and student-prepared posters. This meaningful experience provided early exposure for our students in developing effective health-promotion materials and organizing advocacy activities—essential roles for future pharmacists.

Malaysia aspires to be an international leader in palm oil research through its commitment to science and innovation in this key commodity sector.

This leadership is underpinned by collaborations, one of which is the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

Assoc Prof Dr Nurzalina Abdul Karim Khan, the Dean of the USM School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, represented the Vice-Chancellor of USM at the ceremony. She was present to witness the award of a grant for the project headed by Assoc Prof Dr Goh Choon Fu to Investigate the Dermal Health Benefits of Palm Tocotrienols.

Greetings to everyone!

We are pleased to invite you to the next session of our FEL274 (Health Promotion Pharmacy) Professional Lecture Series. In this session, we are honored to welcome Mr. Tan Chee Pone, a visionary pharmacist, entrepreneur, and health advocate who has redefined the role of the modern pharmacist.

Mr. Tan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), along with an MBA from Multimedia University (MMU). As the founder of Lotus Pharmacy, established in 2003, he has transformed it into a well-recognized pharmacy chain with six thriving outlets and a wholesale division, built on the principles of trust, innovation, and community care.

Guided by the philosophy of salutogenesis, which emphasizes natural healing and the promotion of overall well-being, Mr. Tan seamlessly integrates modern pharmaceutical science with holistic wellness practices.

In this lecture titled “From Drug Expert to Health Expert,” Mr. Tan will share his insights on how pharmacists can evolve from dispensers of medicines to proactive health promoters, empowering individuals to live healthier and more balanced lives.

Menjalin Kerjasama Strategik - Lawatan Rasmi Ahli Panel Penasihat Industri/Komuniti (ICAP) ke Pusat Pengajian Sains Farmasi, USM

Hari ini, Pusat Pengajian Sains Farmasi USM menerima kunjungan Ahli Panel Penasihat Industri/Komuniti (ICAP) dalam sesi pembentangan, perbincangan dan lawatan rasmi yang penuh bermakna.
