The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences was honoured to welcome a delegation from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines, this morning. The delegation was led by Prof. Aleth Therese L. Dacanay, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, together with Mr. Elbert Aldwin H. de Jesus, MPH, Faculty Secretary.

During the visit, both parties engaged in meaningful discussions to explore potential collaborative initiatives in teaching and learning, faculty exchange, student international rotations, as well as research and innovation. The engagement also provided a valuable platform to align institutional priorities and identify areas for mutually beneficial academic partnership.

The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences looks forward to fostering a stronger collaboration with the University of Santo Tomas — one that promotes academic excellence and advances healthcare education and scientific research for the benefit of our respective communities.

The Biohazardous Waste Management: Safe Handling, Segregation and Disposal Course was successfully conducted at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Organised by the Biological and Clinical Waste Disposal Committee, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences; the programme aimed to strengthen institutional competency in proper waste segregation, sharps handling, spill response, and regulatory compliance among staff and postgraduate students.

The course emphasised the principle of segregation at source, safe handling practices, and shared accountability in maintaining a compliant and risk-controlled laboratory environment. The inclusion of practical components further reinforced applied knowledge and responsible laboratory conduct.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
• SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being – by promoting occupational safety and reducing exposure risks
• SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – by ensuring proper waste segregation and environmentally responsible disposal practices

The School remains committed to fostering a strong safety culture and sustainable laboratory management within the university community.

In 2022, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, registered “Pharmily®” as a trademark to celebrate the close-knit spirit of pharmacists and everyone who contributes to the pharmacy profession. We’re definitely excited to see how far “Pharmily® travels through conversations, events, social media, and any form of outreach.

We truly value collaboration and creative use of our trademark ‘Pharmily®” in events, campaigns, and promotional materials. Learning about money can be fun — and we proved it! 😄
Our Financial Education Program, conducted in collaboration with Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad, was successfully held over two engaging days as part of their CSR initiative.

📅 Program Highlights by Day
✨ 9 February – A dedicated program for our Year 1 BPharm Students 👨‍🎓👩‍🎓
✨ 10 February – An interesting exposure for our academic and support staff 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

Participants enjoyed an exciting mix of games, discussions, and hands-on activities designed to build practical, real-life financial skills.

🧩 What Made It Fun & Impactful?

🎲 Cash Flow Board Game
A lively, interactive game that made learning about income, assets, liabilities, insurance, and financial independence both easy and enjoyable.

💬 Interactive Seminar Sessions
From group discussions and case studies to role play and simulations, everyone got involved and actively explored smarter financial decision-making.
