Sharing this round as it was especially challenging for us to motivate this group into doing anything (many had limited mobility, shorter attention spans, and varying cognitive abilities), much less moving in the ways we planned 📚

That said, very thrilled to see most of them getting engaged at last 👴👵 It wasn’t easy and we almost lost our voices, but it was all worth all the efforts at the end 🫶

The rowing exercise with resistance bands is an effective and joint-friendly way for older adults to strengthen the upper back, shoulders, and arms 💪

Focus on SQUEEZING your shoulder blades together (scapular retraction) rather than pulling from your arms. Keep your elbows close to your body too ☑️

This movement targets the postural muscles that often weaken with age, helping reduce rounded shoulders during standing and walking 🚶‍♂️

Benefits for Older Adults 👴🧓:
- Strengthens the upper back and shoulder stabilizers
- Supports better posture and spinal alignment
- Prevents hunched back (thoracic kyphosis)
- Improves arm strength for daily activities (mainly on pulling strength)
- Helps prevent back & shoulder pain

This simple ball squeeze exercise helps strengthen the muscles of your hands, fingers, and forearms.

Grip strength isn’t just about the hands! ✋ A person’s grip strength serves as a powerful indicator of overall health, independence, and even fall risk in older adults 🚫

Studies have shown that seniors with weaker grip strength have a significantly higher chance of falling, reduced lower-limb strength, and greater fear of movement. Maintaining hand strength through simple exercises like the ball squeeze shown above can go a long way in supporting daily function and confidence in elderly.

• Builds grip strength & endurance
• Supports balance and fall prevention indirectly
• Keeps hands mobile and joints flexible
• Makes daily tasks (like opening jars, carrying groceries, or pushing off from a chair) easier

It’s been months, but the important lesson of fall prevention among older adults with cognitive decline still resonates deeply 📚

Falls are not just a purely an issue with poor balance and strength, they can signal changes in vision, mental health, cognition and even confidence (yes, fear of fall leads to higher risk of fall ⚠️).
Early awareness, proper assessment, and consistent movement practice can go a long way in preserving independence 💯

Grateful to have attended the Fall and Dementia Workshop by back in June. We’re committed to continuous professional learning to help serve our fellow senior citizens better 👴👵

With just a resistance band, this chest press exercise helps strengthen the front of your shoulders and chest. These are the muscles older adults use for pushing, reaching forward, getting up from a chair, or even breaking a fall! 👵👴

Keep your posture good and core engaged, press the band forward and feel your pectoral muscles getting engaged (SQUEEZE IT!) 💪
