Ep 3: Fever in children.

Fever is common in children. Fever itself is not usually harmful. While parents worry about fever, doctors are usually more concerned about what has caused the fever.

There are a number of ways to take a temperature. This includes infrared forehead thermometer, under the armpit or under the tongue using a digital thermometer, or ear thermometer. Plastic tape thermometers placed on forehead are not recommended.

Fever cutoffs:
🌑 Ear/Forehead/Rectal temperature: 38.0° C or higher.

🌑 Under the tongue temperature: 37.8° C or higher.

🌑 Under the armpit temperature: 37.2° C or higher.

Things you can do to help your child feel more comfortable:
πŸ₯› Give your child more frequent but smaller drinks/fluids.
πŸ’Š Give paracetamol and/or ibuprofen if they are miserable.
🧽 Use a sponge or face cloth soaked in warm water to wipe their forehead (to cool them down).
πŸ‘š Dress in enough clothing to avoid cold chills or getting too hot.

πŸš‘ Watch out for signs that your child is getting worse. See a doctor if you have any concerns.
