Surgery is not just about the procedure. 😲 Our expert, Prof. Dr. Azlina Amir Abbas, reveals the hidden risks of major surgery, like heart attacks or a difficult recovery from anesthesia, especially if a patient’s heart and lungs aren’t in good condition.

This is why pre-operative conditioning is so vital! It helps patients prepare their bodies to ensure a safer, smoother surgery.

UMSC has long been the trusted choice for foreign patients seeking advanced medical expertise. Now, with the launch of our International Patient Centre (IPC), we are taking this commitment to the next level.

The IPC provides a dedicated one-stop service for health travellers, from consultations and scheduling to personalised care coordination. With this, UMSC not only welcomes more foreign patients, but also positions Malaysia as a premier hub for quaternary healthcare in the region.

This initiative reflects our mission to share Malaysia’s best medical minds with the world, while ensuring patients feel supported, informed, and at home, even when they are far from theirs.

On 28 August 2025, UMSC held its event “The Future of Value-Based Care: Excellence Transformation” in conjunction with the Merdeka month celebration.

The programme began with a welcome speech by YBrs. This was followed by an address from YBhg. Datuk Zulkarnain Md Eusope, Chairman of UMSC, who highlighted that UMSC is more than just a hospital but a living bridge between Malaysia’s proud healthcare legacy and its future.

One of the highlights of the day was the launch of the Paediatric Diabetes Clinic, the first and only one of its kind in Malaysia. YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Hari Chandran Thambinayagam, Medical Director of UMSC, narrated his long journey friendship with YBrs. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yazid bin Jalaludin, Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist, on how they embarked into the medical profession and Prof. Yazid therefore has charted into different path of clinical excellence. The session continued with Prof Yazid who then presented success stories and share his vision for the new clinic. This pioneering initiative sets a new benchmark in managing Type 1 Diabetes in children. Built on Value-Based Care (VBC), the clinic offers holistic care where patients and families receive not only advanced medical treatment, but also nutritional guidance, psychological support, and technology-enabled solutions.

In the spirit of Merdeka, the event also celebrated Malaysia’s 68th Independence Day with a unifying message of resilience, progress, and hope. The highlight of the celebration was when the entire audience joined together to sing Jalur Gemilang while proudly waving the national flag, filling the hall with a strong sense of patriotism and unity.

🙏 Heartfelt appreciation to all the sponsor for sponsoring this launch. Their support reflects a shared vision with UMSC, to transform diabetes care and build healthier futures specially for children.

UM Specialist Centre (UMSC) is proud to announce the official establishment of our Auxiliary Police Unit, approved by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM)

This milestone was made possible through the strong collaboration with PDRM at district, state and Bukit Aman levels. It marks a new chapter in strengthening hospital security and ensuring a safe, controlled and trusted environment for our patients, visitors, staff and community.

With enforcement powers granted including law enforcement within UMSC premises, the Auxiliary Police Unit will play a vital role in crime prevention, traffic control, property protection and overall safety. This initiative is aligned with UMSC’s long-term strategy to create a Zero-Crime Zone, ensuring UMSC remains one of the safest healthcare and commercial facilities in Malaysia.

As UMSC continues to grow, the Auxiliary Police Unit will also extend its role in supporting both current and future operations, including the upcoming new hospital, to safeguard our expanding facilities and services.

We extend our deepest gratitude to PDRM for their continuous guidance and support, as well as to our UMSC management, departments and security officers who will serve as our very first Auxiliary Police personnel.
